What is RecTrac? Not to be confused with the accountability swipe-in, RecTrac is FMWR’s automated customer usage system. This management information system helps us provide better recreation service to our customers by monitoring program and facility usage. More importantly, evaluating RecTrac data will eventually aid in determining future funding to support FMWR programs.

Do I have to register? How long does it take? Anyone using services at the fitness or community centers must be registered in the system. The process is quick and easy and you can register yourself or, if accompanied, your whole Family in a single visit!

What is unauthorized care?

Unauthorized providers are those

who care for children in their

homes for more than 10 hours a

week without proper training and

certification. While neighbors

caring for a child less than 10

hours a week on a consistent

basis or temporarily in excess of

10 hours, such as during

temporary duty, overnights and

weekends is not considered

unauthorized care. It is

considered unauthorized when a

person provides care to any child

other than the occupants of the

apartment for more than 10

hours a week on a consistent

basis. Providing unauthorized

care may jeopardize your on-

base housing.

During the month of January,

CYSS will be holding a Family

Child Care amnesty program,

Check with the Family Child Care

Office to learn about FCC

Certification. It's a good thing.

Everybody wins – Contact the

FCC Director to get started at

DSN: 764-4835, or come to a

meeting on opening an FCC

home on January 8th at 1030 am,

childcare will be provided.

Please do not begin caring for children Until you have been certified by the

Garrison Family Child Care office

Providing unauthorized child care Jeopardizes your eligibility for housing

As always the educational and emotional well being of your children is very

important at the Camp Walker Child Development Center. We accentuate the

"CARE" in child care with our developmental programs to stimulate young

minds. We strive to provide the nurturing, positive environment your child needs

and deserves. Our goal is to assist each child by promoting his/her intellectual

growth, physical ability, and social skills. We have the responsibility to provide a

safe, healthy environment, enriching activities, and warm, loving care for every

child enrolled in our programs.

The CDC still has openings for children 6 weeks to Kindergarten, as well has

hourly spots. We invite you to come and visit us and enroll your child in a program

that will help them to grow and explore.

For more information please contact the Camp Walker Child Development Center

at 764-4834 or come by Bldg S-223.

All children must be registered with Parent Central Services to use CYSS programs.

Camp Carroll Mission Essential Fitness

As the Army continues to pursue its culture of fitness, the USAG Daegu Sports and Fitness program is

equally engaged in providing our Soldiers and other authorized members only the best services with a

variety of fitness classes, education, and health promotions. Most of you should be aware of the latest

fitness schedule which includes a broader spectrum of classes to meet the growing demands and diversity

of all USAG Daegu’s fitness enthusiasts.

November proved no different as the first Mission Essential Fitness Fundamentals class was offered for

those who were ready to make the transition to a higher level of fitness. Mission Essential Fitness, based

on the most popular “Crossfit,” burst onto the fitness scene several years ago and has recently become a

fitness revolution. Although crossfitters come in all shapes and sizes and from different backgrounds it

has been notably popular with the military and law enforcement communities.

Like most fitness trends it started amongst the special forces and SWAT communities and has since

trickled down to the layperson. It quickly took root in the Military community because the workouts

mimicked the same physiological processes and efforts needed during real world operations; thus,

producing better operators and, more importantly, saving lives. For these people fitness means the

difference between life and death. The same can be said for firefighters; hence, the increase popularity

amongst this group. Nowadays, Mission Essential Fitness follows the same fundamentals of movement

with an identity of its own.

Mission Essential Fitness workouts are now being implemented at the Camp Carroll Sports and Fitness

Center. Mr. Dexter Wise a Certified Crossfit Instructor meets with our Soldiers and/or anyone with the

passion to excel. Although the program was designed at first with the Soldiers in mind, it quickly

expanded as a regular offering among our already hefty line of fitness programs. The traditional PT is no

longer an accurate predictor of an operator’s ability to perform his duties effectively. This type of

training program is not just for adrenaline junkie professionals. Mission Essential Fitness type gyms are

being found throughout various military commands and can also be found in nearly every major city

where they’re known as Crossfit Gyms. Here, the average person can be seen suffering next to an elite

performer while, both utilize the same primitive but functional movements and both reaping the same

rewards. The movements are what make athletes effective performers. The program is non-specialized

and utilizes a variety of different functional movements from powerlifting, Olympic lifting, track and

field, and gymnastics. The result of a completely randomized approach to reps, sets, and time produces a

group of people who are ready for whatever life presents in the way of physical challenges. Most of the

movements are basic but others require practice and reconditioning the muscles and nervous system to

produce explosive execution while utilizing correct form. Both men and women can utilize the Mission

Essential Fitness and reap the same rewards. For nearly every exercise there is a variation or a precursor

that will set the client on his or her way to mastering the required movement. This varied approach to

fitness will minimize overuse injuries, burn more fat, build more lean muscle, and elicit a cardio

respiratory response like nothing else. Traditional programs that utilize bodybuilding and slow running

are not sufficient to prepare someone for an elite functional performance. Most people who use the

traditional beach body fitness approach produce marginal times on some of the benchmark workouts. It is

important to approach this program without an ego in order to maintain safety and prevent early burnout.

There have been many “in shape” SF and SWAT operators who have been hospitalized for pushing

beyond their bodies ability to handle the workouts. These cases are not as common amongst people who

aren’t accustomed to pushing their bodies to the limit but can still occur. Before beginning the program it

is recommended that you learn as much as possible about the methodology. “Mr. Dexter Wise is a season

instructor who begins teaching in the most simple ways to adapt skills and abilities associated with range

of motion, levels of fitness, etc to accommodate anyone who may be interested in joining our program,”

says Carlos Algarin, Camp Carroll Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Director. More information can be
