•Ultrasonics are best suited for precision

cleaning applications.

•Ultrasonics is a sound, beyond the range

of human hearing, generated by a

mechanism. The application of ultrasonics

in liquid medium, such as water, is

instrumental when utilized in cleaning

applications. Ultrasonics produce the

effect known as cavitation. Cavitation is

the creation of a microscopic bubble by an

ultrasonic wave, the subsequent growing of

that bubble, and, finally, the implosion of

that bubble.

•The implosion of a bubble releases a

tremendous amount of energy,

approximately 5,000 pounds per square

inch (psi) of pressure and temperatures in

the area of 5,000ºF. With the addition of

chemical and thermal energy to an

ultrasonic tank, ultrasonics is the ultimate in

‘scrubbing bubbles’.

• In-house staff designs custom solutions for the most difficult parts cleaning

problems.

• FMT works directly with the customer to identify the problem, then design and

manufacture an appropriate cleaning solution to achieve the desired outcome.

• Field engineering teams are responsible for the installation, startup, operation

and maintenance of the product.

# 1 - Testing the process

TWO MAIN CATEGORIES OF LABORATORY TESTING

There are a variety of testing procedures at our

disposal.

Test procedures are dictated by the contaminant being

tested for or by the unit of measure used.

• Millipore particulate size test

• Measures maximum particle size on the part

• Expressed in microns (1 micron =.000039")

• Documented for future reference

#2 - Testing the part

TWO MAIN CATEGORIES OF LABORATORY TESTING

• Picture taken of particulate

& sent to client

• Can develop cleanliness specification

for customer

• Can determine proper part handling

& fixturing

• Updated schedules &

photographs

• Mechanical testing of

equipment prior to the customer

run-off

• Customer run-off with on-site

parts testing

• Run off unit operated with

standard tap water during the

tryout and run-off phases.

• If customer-specified chemical

run-off, the customer supplies

chemicals.
