Welcome to Fletcher Maynard Academy (FMA) Neighborhood Council and Community School

The Fletcher Maynard Neighborhood Council and Community School provides events and classes for both children and adults in our neighborhood. We offer a wide array of after-school programs, family events, community parties, field trips, adult courses, and semester-end performances. Flyers for individual spring family events, student performances, and field trips will be posted at the school and available to the neighborhood. The Fletcher Maynard Neighborhood Council is made up of community residents and FMA parents who advise the Community School Director on programming for the neighborhood. Look for a flyer announcing the next FMA Neighborhood Council meeting. We welcome new members! NEIGHBORHOOD HALLOWEEN PARTY Come in costume to celebrate the holiday. Enjoy fun Halloween games and sweet treats. Delight in the magic of a very special surprise guest!! FREE !!!! Friday, October 29th, 3:00PM—5:00PM. FMA School Cafeteria

WRENTHAM OUTLETS SHOPPING DAY Just in time for holiday shopping, join us for a day of festive bargain hunting. FREE bus transportation—shopping and eating are on your own. NOTE: You must pre– register for this trip. Sunday, December 5th, 9:30AM.—2:30PM. Registration Deadline: Wed. Dec. 1st

TOPSFIELD FAIR FAMILY TRIP Join us for a fun day in the country. Enjoy live farm animals, prized harvest vegetables, handmade crafts, music, and carnival rides. Note: you must pre-register for this trip. Cost: $12.00 per person includes bus, fair admission, and 5 free rides! Sunday, October 3, 2004 Bus leaves @ 9AM Returns @ 3:30PM.

Bookmaking/ Crafts Have fun with your friends making a new art project each week. Painting, Drawing, and more!

Creative Movement Play movement games and create your own dance style. Be in the big show!

Theater Kids Club Make up stories and have fun playing theater games. Teacher: Rhea Dunn Thursdays 4:00 –4:45 pm. Sept 13—Dec 22 (Limited to 15)

Computers (Extended Day & OST) Learn new games and play old favorites. Write and draw on the computer.

Gymnastics Balance, tumble, and jump! Enjoy learning basic gymnastics safely.

Dance Class Learn dance styles from all over the world. Create a dance show with your peers.

Cooking Class Learn the basics of cooking. Enjoy making food that is healthy and delicious.

Book Making Bookmaking can be a sculptural method for storing and sharing information. Create unusual bindings and molded cases. Fill your book with your words and images.

Karate Learn basics Soo Bahk Do Karate at your own pace in a safe group environment. This style focuses on self defense, not offense.

Drumming Learn how to play together in a drum circle. Make music that feels and sounds great!

Circus Arts Learn to be a clown, perform magic tricks, juggle scarves, and more! Add your special talents to our show!

FMA COMMUNITY SCHOOL POLICIES

Welcome! The Fletcher Maynard Community School provides quality after-school programming for school-age children. Our classes are innovative, engaging, and designed for hands-on learning. Registration Fall registration takes place on Tuesday, September 7th — Friday, September 10th from 2– 5 pm. You may call to set up an al-ternate time. Classes remain open until filled. Registration forms are on pages 11 and 12 of this brochure. Please fill out a separate form for EACH CHILD you are registering. Please bring or mail your registration form to the Community School Office (Room O18 at FMA).

Cost Please contact the FMA Community School Director for more information regarding class fees. Payment in installment is an option, and must be arranged with the Community School Director. Some financial aid is available.

Refunds and Cancellation Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Classes may change or may be cancelled due to low enrollment after two weeks. Full refunds will be given for can-celled classes. For all other classes, refunds

are given if a child drops the class after the first meeting only.

Access Information The City of Cambridge and Fletcher Maynard Community School do not discriminate on the basis of disability. FMA COMMUNITY SCHOOL POLICIES

Picking Up Your Child Our instructors need to leave after their classes end and cannot be responsible for student supervision once their class is dismissed. Please assist us by picking up your child at the end of his/her class or make other arrangements to have your child picked up on time or to walk home. Children enrolled in FMA Extended Day or FMA Out of School Time (OST) will return to those programs at the end of their classes and do not need to be picked up from a Community School class.

Late Fee Parents/Guardians will be charged a late fee of $10 for every 15 minutes late for pick-up at the end of class. We request late fees to be paid within 48 hours to avoid disrupting your child’s after-school activities.

Holidays and Vacations We do not hold classes on City Holidays, School Vacations, Snow Days, or other days that the Cambridge Public Schools are closed. See a complete list on page 2.

Early Release & Half Days We do not hold classes on early release and half days. Many of our classes are partnerships with the Extended Day Program. If your child is enrolled in FMA Extended Day or FMA Out of School Time (OST), these programs will hold special events or trips on early release days.
