One to one sessions todiscuss all aspects of
pregnancy, labour and preparationfor parenthood. Mums and Dads
are both welcome.
Midwifery

A midwife is available forpre-conceptual, ante-natal
and post-natal advice.You don’t need to book
an appointment.
Ante-NatalClinic
Bumpsto Birth is an opportunity
for prospective parents to discussthe process of normal labour and thepain relief methods available to them.There is an information session on thecare of your new baby and pros and
cons of breast feeding.

Baby Massagepromotes bonding between
baby and parents. It promotesrelaxation, reduces discomfort
from colic and helps todevelop your baby’s first
language, which istouch.

Baby Clinic - A HealthVisitor is available for individual
advice on your child’s growth anddevelopment at each session
Breast Feeding Clinic - A Health Visitoror Midwife is available at each
session to offer informal and friendlyadvice. Come in and have a chat
in a happy and supportiveenvironment.

YourFlying Start Health Visitor will
be able to support you leading up to thebirth of your child and the following 4 years,until your child starts school. They will inform
you about other Flying Start services thatare available to help you along your
journey as a parent.

A small supportive groupexploring the developmental
milestones in your baby’samazing first year of
life.
Baby’s First Year
This is a 9 weekprogramme to help parents
recognise the important role they playin their child’s learning and development
during everyday activities. Each family hasa DVD of themselves and a guidebook to
keep at the end of the course. Pleasespeak to your Health Visitor if you would
like some support to encourage yourchild’s social communication and
language development.

TheEarly Years
Team offer a rangeof support in your home to meet the
individual needs of you and your child. Weencourage parents to join in with their
children’s play during our sessions;activities include free play, arts and
crafts, role play, messy play andmuch, much more.
Early YearsSupport
Soft play sessions for under2’s. Promotes co-ordination and
balance, social and listening skills,through play.

Attendingchildcare can add to what
you already do at home to helpyour child learn and develop to theirfull potential. Your child will have theopportunity to communicate and talk
with other children and adults, enjoylearning whilst playing, confidently
try new things and practicenew skills.

Children are offered theopportunity to go to the childcare
setting of their choice within the Flying Startarea for 121/2 hours a week throughout each
school term. We offer a variety of settings andboth English and Welsh Medium are
available. Children will start the term afterthey are 2 and will finish the term
after they are 3.

Handling Children’sBehaviour
An 8 week positive parentingcourse facilitated one to one in the
home and/or in small groups, buildingself-confidence, self-esteem andincreasing understanding of child
development and behaviourmanagement.

Flying Start Extras – For All 0- 4 year olds
Pop in and Play
Pop in and Play is afree friendly meeting place for
Flying Start Families. This enablesthem to play, socialise and share
experiences in a fun and safeenvironment.

Our drop in for families withchildren with special and additional
needs. Share advice and support withother parents in a relaxed
atmosphere.

We provide Family Funsessions throughout the school
holidays for our Flying Start Families.These are held at various locations inthe Vale. Activities include Easter Egg
Hunts, Sandcastle competitions,Pop in and Play sessions and
much, much more!

Walkand Talks takes us
out and about in Barry. It offersopportunities for children to communicate
thoughts, feelings, ideas, intentions and plans.This involves hearing, understanding and usinglanguage and communication. The walks are
pushchair friendly but children are encouragedto walk as much as possible so the
pace is “toddler pace.”

Flying Start aims to promotethe development of positive
parent/carer and child relationships. Ourparenting team provides advice and
support for all Flying Start families thisincludes one to one sessions in thefamily home and working together
in small groups

practical cooking experience.They promote basic cooking
skills and advice onhealthy eating.
