Student Representative Council Membership

Ms Heidi Mureau, Postgraduate Distance Education Representative, has been collaborating with CQU’s Learning and Teaching Services on student engagement and voice. In September 2016, Ms Mureau attended the ‘Student Engagement Symposium’ in Sydney, Australia. This symposium provided learnings from the UK and Europe on student engagement experiences and working with students as partners in higher education. The learnings from this symposium, and the ‘Transforming Practice Programme’ conference in April 2016, have identified a number of quick wins to improve the level of student partnering at CQUniversity.

At the Student Representative Council (SRC) meeting of Tuesday, 8 November 2016, Ms Mureau provided a Student Engagement Symposium Report and discussed an analysis of learnings from other global institutions and authorities. Ms Mureau recommends Council change the SRC membership in aims to improve the student voice. Council is asked to consider expanding the SRC membership list to be inclusive of the below proposed membership community groups:

Action required: For endorsement Strategic Plan Alignment: Providing a Great Student Experience Recommendation: That Student Representative Council note the learnings from the ‘Student Engagement Symposium’ conference, provide any feedback, and endorse the escalation of quick wins as a proposal to the Vice-Chancellor’s Advisory Committee. Issue: Student engagement and voice as a strategic priority. Background: Ms Heidi Mureau, Postgraduate Distance Education Representative, has been collaborating with CQU’s Learning and Teaching Services on student engagement and voice. In September 2016, Heidi attended the ‘Student Engagement Symposium’ in Sydney, Australia. This symposium provided learnings from the UK and Europe on student engagement experiences and working with students as partners in higher education. The learnings from this symposium, and the ‘Transforming Practice Programme’ conference in April 2016, have identified a number of quick wins to improve the level of student partnering at CQUniversity. Rationale: The evidence is in: student engagement in Higher Education management and governance has many benefits for the University, students and the community. CQUniversity is doing well in engaging with students, and global experiences demonstrate there are many more opportunities available to improve CQU’s student engagement and live up to its espoused values of student engagement as a strategic priority.
