Ready to help, the team of volunteers will travel to South Africa at their own expense in their holiday time. As a recognized development organisation, the JAM Schweiz foun-dation is responsible for the implementation of this project. A local partner organisation provides long-term support for the development of the day care centre. The construction work is part of an overall development strategy in Orange Farm.
If, due to unforeseen circumstances, the project should not take place, JAM reserves the right to substitute this with another suitable project. Any possible surplus donations are to be used for a similar project. Donations are tax-deductible.

Enthusiasm
A team wants to helpThe day care centre will receive a new, insulated, prefabricated house with four rooms built on a cement foundation. A kitchen and toilet block will also be built and a high fence will be put up around the open side of the premises.
The team will paint both the interior and exterior of the building in bright colours, build a playground complete with climbing frame, dig a vegetable garden and plant trees. They will also furnish the rooms with mattresses, blankets, tables, chairs and educational toys and teaching material. The director will be able to take part in an 18 month long advanced professional training course. Furthermore, the children’s diet will also be financed with the nutritious JAM porridge.
More than just a roof over their headsThe team supports the involvement of local women and the creation of an environment for playing and learning that is suitable for children. The sustainable effects of this project are manifold:

How we will reach our goal
The teams play an important part in helping to relieve hardship and support the involvement of women. As a mother myself, I know how important suitable toys and educational material is for a child’s development. You can help too!

... There’s plenty to do
What we have achieved so far
The plight of the Neo day care centreThe Neo day care centre in the Orange Farm township was set up in 1993 by Nthabiseng Rompove. The word ‘Neo’ means ‘gift’. With five teachers and a cook, Nthabiseng cur-rently looks after 60 children.
The day care centre is located in a hut made of corrugated iron. From the outside, it still makes a good impression, but the roof leaks when it rains. The outhouse is in a very bad condition. The land is walled in on three sides, but the fourth side is very poorly secured. There is only enough money to cover the bare essentials, but not for educational material or toys. Children have to lie on old carpets on the floor for their afternoon nap. E

Our fundraising goalby 12th September
49,000 CHF
Successful Little Princess project In October 2012, a team from Switzerland rebuilt the Little Princess day care centre. Mama Christina, as she is affectionately known to us, has put her whole heart and soul into her work of a lifetime. She seized the opportunity and has since further expanded the day care centre.
Number of children doubledSince the rebuilding work, the number of children looked after at the centre has doubled in size. She invests all the additional child care benefits she receives back into the day care centre. Together with her husband, she has extended both the kitchen and garden, bought better kitchen utensils and more tables and chairs for the children and replaced the outhouse with a proper toilet. It is a great pleasure to support women with so much initiative through our projects.

For the first time ever, we didn’t have to worry about winter because the day care centre is now a proper house and not a corrugated iron hut. I am extremely grateful for the support received from JAM and I’m very, very happy with the new infrastructure.
