Digitisation is something that affects us all – we all use many valuable digitised resources online, newspapers, records and maps as well as finding books and images -digitisation is a part of what we use every day and a growing part of what we offer. This DaySchool is designed to introduce us to the National Library of Scotland’s plans for creating digital resources. Inviting us as professionals working in libraries, heritage or archives they want to share their plans for future strategy with us, hear about our experiences and find out what digitisation means for us.LocScot wants you to use this forum to discuss aspects of digitisation, tell us if copyright confuses you and share your knowledge and experiences with others in the field. Short introductions from our friends at NLS will be followed by an Open Forum session – we hope we can answer your questions, debate the possibilities and be a part of shaping future plans. After an informal lunch we will be given a demo on maps or you can tour the National Library of Scotland – please come and join us for this free event!

We are a professional group committed to the provision of local studies services across Scotland, preserving our unique collections for future generations. The growing popularity of local and family history research ensures we remain one of the busiest and most comprehensive departments of expertise within library services.

We believe LocScot plays a crucial role in supporting those who work in local history. We are asking you to get involved and take this opportunity to create a really worthwhile network for you and your fellow local studies librarians.

We think it’s important to take time to get together, organise our network and create some really exciting events for anyone involved in local and family history. Those of us who are on the committee at the moment would really welcome you - your ideas and your experience are invaluable to those who work in local studies. Please respond and find about future meetings and how you can get involved!
