This Flushing Procedure is specific to changing from a Non Food Grade Grease to a

Bel-Ray Food Grade NSF H1 Grease

    Option 1:

    BEARINGSFLUSHING

    PROCEDURE

    Bel-Ray Company Inc.

    1. An ideal method is to remove the bearing and flush and brush with solvent, using a softbristle brush. Pump a little grease through the Zerk fitting to clean out any contamination

or cleaning solvent prior to reinstallation.

    2. Let the bearing air dry, wipe off any dirt or clean out debris with a lint free rag. DO NOTBLOW DRY WITH FORCED AIR, this can cause immediate wear to the bearing.

    3. Inspect the clean bearing for wear, pits, cracks, etc. prior reinstalling. The inspection may

find the bearing unsuitable for continued use. Resume regular lubrication schedule.

    Option 2:

    1. Using the Bel-Ray No-Tox grease of choice, simply purge the previously used greasewhile the bearing is turning. Increased service frequency is necessary in the beginning.Be careful not to blow out any seals in the process. If there is a drain plug, remove it to

assist with the removal of the existing grease. Observe the purging grease until you see

the No-Tox grease or a change in color taking place. Replace the drain plug (if removed).

    2. Grease again with greater frequency (twice the normal frequency), remove the drain plugand continue the purging process until a complete product change out has occurred.

Replace the drain plug. (Example:If you have been greasing at one month intervals, re-grease at two weeks. After two intervals of increased frequency, resume regular

    lubrication schedule.)

    Option 3:

    1. A third method is to blend a solution of Bel-Ray No-Tox grease with Bel-Ray No-ToxPL PLUS (item # 76000)creating a flushing slurry similar in consistency to an NLGI-#00 to #000 semi-fluid grease. Add the No-Tox PL Plus slowly to the grease while

stirring. The grease will thin out easily as you mix to the desired consistency.

    2. Load the slurry into a grease gun. Remove the drain plug if available and grease the

bearing slowly while the bearing is turning under little or no load. This should purge theexisting grease from the bearing after several applications.

    3. Then purge the slurry solution from the bearing by using a clean purged grease gun filledwith the No-Tox grease of choice. Grease the bearing slowly to purge the rest of the

slurry solution while it is still turning. Grease again at twice the normal frequency toremove any left over flushing solution. Resume regular lubrication schedule.

    Option 4:

    * This procedure is to be used only when there is a drain plug.

    1. Remove the Zerk fitting, add No-Tox PL Plus to the bearing, run the bearing for an

hour then remove the drain plug for removal of the clean out solution.

    2. Replace the drain plug and fill the bearing cavity way with No-Tox PL Plus and runagain for 15 minutes then drain. Repeat if necessary.

    3. With the drain plug removed and the bearing completely drained, replace the Zerk fittingand start re-greasing with the bearing running. Observe the drain area for clean grease to

appear, then plug the drain and return to the regular lubrication schedule.
