The restaurant serves traditional Japanese haute cuisine made with prime ingredients. Note the reproduced sukiya-zukuri (tea ceremony house) style architecture from the Edo period.
Take a traditional boat trip round the town of Sawara guided by the boatman and feel like you have stepped back in time to the Edo period.
This valuable historic building dates back over 200 years to the Edo period. It is said that the main
residential part was designed by Tadataka himself.
Tadataka Inoh created the first map of Japan using surveying techniques. The museum exhibits valuable materials including actual maps and survey instruments of the time as well as various maps of the world.
As well as sightseeing information of Sakura, you can rent a bicycle to get round the city easily.
The three former residences show how samurai lived at the time.You can actually go inside and see valuable materials and furnishings.
The unique museum showcases Japanese swords.The exhibits are changed regularly from the collection of over 600 swords and scabbards.
The flagship zourokumochi, tortoise shell-shaped bean-jam-filled wafers, are popular for bringing luck!The old Japanese-style confectionery shop maintains traditional flavors.
To preserve the townscape, this traditional house was converted into the Tourist Information Center.Events such as dressing in kimono are held to pass on Japanese culture.
The pure Japanese-style residence was built in early Meiji using traditional techniques while introducing Western construction methods. The famous Sakura Garden is designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty.
The park is located on the site of Sakura Castle. The rich historical heritage
includes the castle tower ruins and dry moat. The natural surroundings are
symbolized by the 400-year-old Fufu Mokkoku, a pair of
Japanese ternstroemia trees.
Run by the Tourism Association, the Tourist Information Center in front of the station has a café area and rental bicycles.
This old store is registered as a Prefectural Tangible Cultural Property. With a history of over 150 years, today it sells Japanese arts and crafts.
The bridge ranks among the 100 Soundscapes of Japan. Its nickname, Ja Ja Bridge, comes from the sound of the water falling from the bridge.
The museum showcases Sawara’s festival culture which is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. You can see the impressive floats and dolls close up.
The park has an enormous Dutch windmill.The fields around the windmill are carpeted with seasonal flowers such as tulips and sunflowers.
