1911 Gustav Otto, el hijo del inventor de los motores con el ciclo Otto funda en Munich la „Fábrica de Aviones
Gustav Otto“. El 7 de Marzo de 1916 se convierte en la „Fábrica Bávara de Aviones. Esta es la partida de
nacimiento oficial de la BMW („Bayerische Motoren Werke“ : Fábrica Bávara de Motores).
1920 Gustav Otto introduce en el mercado una bicicleta asistida por un motor con el nombre "Flottweg„
(„camino veloz“) fabricada por su nueva empresa „Otto Werke GmbH München").

El nombre Flottweg
1932 El Dr. Georg Bruckmayer adquiere „Otto Werke München“ y la renombra como „Flottweg Motoren-Werke“
(Fábrica de Motores Flottweg), produciendo motores de avión, para bicicletas y motocicletas.

La empresa se traslada en 1943 Vilsbiburg. Después de la segunda Guerra Mundial se dedica la empresa a la
fabricación de piezas de precisión para la Industria Gráfica.

Como „segunda base de apoyo“ se empieza a desarrollar en
los años 1950 las primeras centrífugas.
1956: primer Decanter Flottweg modelo Z1, para BASF AG en
Ludwigshafen.
