Social Media Plan

November 11 – “You Can Recycle Right” – highlight the four/five main items to recycle

o Confused about what to recycle? Paper, cardboard, bottles and cans only. When in doubt, throw it out.

o

o It’s easier to recycle aluminum than to spell it. Recycle clean, dry, empty cans.

o

o On average, Americans drink one beverage from an aluminum can every day! In Florida, we recycle less than 20% of the cans we use. Cans are 100% recyclable.

o The cardboard box can be recycled, BUT the package CANNOT be recycled at the curb. Reuse the packing materials when you send your next holiday gift.

o Follow Rowley’s lead … Be Awesome! Recycle! Every bottle. Every can. Every day.

November 12 – “Recyclable but not curbside” – include WRAP & Goodwill posts

o Shoe boxes are a perfect fit for recycling carts, BUT please empty them first and take old shoes to Goodwill!

o

o After picking up the dry cleaning DON’T throw the plastic wrapper and the coat hanger in the recycle bin. The plastic wrapper can be recycled at Publix, Walmart, Target or Lowes. Return the coat hangers to your dry cleaner.

o

o Plastic wrap and film cannot be recycled curbside. Instead take them to Publix, Walmart, Target or Lowes. They have containers for you to place plastic wrap, bags and film and they will make sure the materials are recycled into new products like plastic benches and flowerpots.

o

o

o The holidays are around the corner. Clean out the closet and consider donating clothes and appliances to your local Goodwill. They can’t be recycled curbside.

o

o

o Whoa there cowboy. Ropes, hoses, cords and other tanglers don’t go in the recycling cart because they clog the machinery.

o

November 13 – “Recycle on the Go” – build off “Drive it Home” campaign of DOT & KFB

o Bring empty plastic bottles and cans back home for recycling.

o

o Recycling road trip! Take a bag with you when you go out and bring water bottles and cans back home to your recycling bin

o

o Drive It Home – Keep our Paradise Litter Free. Take bottles and cans home to recycle.

o

November 14 – “Buy Recycled”

o The American Beverage Association is designing its plastic bottles to be 100% recyclable – even the caps. It will only work if you recycle. https://vimeo.com/345697472

o Recycle your plastic bottle. It can become a lot of different items such as jeans, t-shirts, carpets and shoes.

o

o Buy products made from recycled materials.

o Aluminum cans can be recycled into more cans or a bicycle frame

o

o Look for “Made from Recycled Material” labels on the products you buy.

November 15 – “Take the Pledge”

o Pledge to never bag recyclables. They should be loose in the cart since plastic bags get tangled in the machinery

o

o For America Recycles Day 2019, I pledge to find out what materials are collected for recycling in my community

o For America Recycles Day 2019, I pledge to reduce the amount of waste I produce, recycle more and buy products made with recyclable content

o For America Recycles Day 2019, I will encourage one family member or one friend to take the #BeRecycled pledge

Additional ideas for social media posts …

Hump day is hard enough. Don’t make it worse by throwing the coffee cup or food containers in the office recycling.

When it doubt throw it out.

Can’t decide what to watch? Recycling is an easy decision. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours.

Recycling steel saves at least 75% of the energy it would take to create steel from raw materials. That's enough energy to power 18 million homes

Make sure after you read your newspaper you place it in the curbside bin BUT not the plastic wrapper. You can take it to Publix, Walmart, Target or Lowes and they will make sure it is recycled.
