Glycolic Acid Treatment• Glycolic acid is the most popular

alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) used by dermatologists to treat skin conditions including acne, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage.

• The low molecular weight of glycolic acid allows for easier stratum corneum penetration and increased skin turnover rates.


• The pH of products with glycolic acid must be low to be effective.

• Products with pH ~3 are generally safe for Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV.

• Glycolic acid is most commonly used in acne and anti-aging products.

• Results– 1% Floraesters K-20W Jojoba resulted in improved

skin turnover

Conclusion

The lotion containing 1%Floraesters K-20W Jojobademonstrated a 7.7%improvement in skin turnovercompared to the vehicle(p<0.05).

lotion (pH = 2.5 – 3) with 2% glycolic acid for its potential to mitigate the drying effect of glycolic acid (i.e. increase skin hydration via Corneometer) after 7 days of twice daily use (n=20)

improvement in barrier function as measured by TEWL
