Instructions –

Large leaf – make at least 10 in each colour:

Centre vein of leaf: Using E hook and green yarn, chain at least 18 chains (more if you desire a longer stem on leaf), weaving in tail as you chain. SS into second chain from hook. SS into every chain to end (DO NOT TWIST). At end, ch 3, and turn, SS in every ch on opposite side of initial chain to beginning. Ch 1 and ss to top. Flat side is the front.

Side 1 of leaf (working on top edge of all ss from preceding row): 1 ss in first st, 1 hdc in next st. dc into next 2 st, tr into next 2 st, dtr into next 2 st, trtr into next 2 st, dtr into next 2 st, tr into next 2 st, dc into next 2 st, hdc into next st, ss into next st. Ch 1, and bring across back of stem to other side of vein, opposite last st worked.

Side 2 of leaf (also working on top edge of all ss from preceding row): Repeat as for side 1, until you come to beginning again. SS into ch1 below, secure yarn, and cut, leaving tail to weave in. Weave tail into back of leaf.

This should give you a leaf with a well defined vine.

Small leaf – make at least 10 in each colour:

Make as for large leaf, with E hook, but chain at least 16 chains. For each side of leaf, follow this sequence of stitches into the ss below:ss, hdc, dc, dc, tr, tr, dtr, dtr, tr, tr, dc, dc, hdc, ss.

Move to opposite side, and finish end as above.

Note, as in nature, not all leaves are perfectly symmetrical. If you end up stitching into a stitch or two below or above where you need to when making up side two, don’t worry, just adjust the number of stitches in the sequence.

Perhaps add an extra hdc to the end, or take out one of the dcs to make it work to the tip.

Flowers – make 15 or more

With E hook, and white yarn (or whatever colour you want), make a magic loop (leaving a 1 inch tail free), ss into loop, and ***ch4, then make a tr cl. Ch 4, and ss into magic hook.

Repeat from *** 4 more times to make 5 petals. Hold tight to centre of flower with one hand, and pull magic loop tail tight to close ring. Secure tails and weave in ends.

Putting scarf together.

Using F hook, and vine colour, chain until length is desired length of lariat. Release hook from ch, and add leaf by putting hook through ch3 ring at end of stem, and pulling yarn ch through. SS into second ch from hook. SS along base ch (DO NOT TWIST) adding leaves and flowers randomly along as you go. Do not overcrowd leaves and flowers – use ¼ of elements for one side. Continue to end, adding leaf at end. SS along opposite side of base chain, adding leaves and flowers along, using another ¼ of elements. Secure tail and weave in ends.

Make second chain, and chain another base chain, approximately equal, slightly longer, and repeat as above for one side, ss into each base chain, adding leaves and flowers randomly. Turn, and ss down each ch on opposite side. Measure against first half of lariat, and at several points, remove hook, and attach to first half of lariat, crocheting two together.

When scarf is finished, and tails woven in, add beading to centre of flowers. Measure 1 yard Nymo, condition and thread through needle. Attach to back of flower, sew large glass bead, and seed bead to secure, through centre of flower, and secure beads and flower to vine base. Repeat for all flowers..
