Definition of a “Flipped” Classroom

● An inverse classroom● An upside-down classroom● All homework is done in class; all

classwork is done at home● Does NOT require use of online

component but is very helpful (especially for S- motivation & T- assessment).

Drawbacks of Flipping

● More preparation time for the teacher (creating videos, screencasts, online discussions)

● Students have an initial adjustment period (about 7 weeks)

● Technical problems are common● Students must be trained to use new technology

*There are always students who are strongly adverse to CHANGE! Don’t let this deter you!

Considerations When Flipping

1. Don’t use technology for technology’s sake.

2. Take one step at time when flipping. Consider how students respond and adjust lessons accordingly.

3. Don’t flip everything! Select modules that are more conducive to flipping!

4. Expect an adjustment phase for you and the students!
