Age: 29

Currently at the top of his game,

Corey is labeled an Elite Gymnast.

This means he has passed through

Levels 1 – 10 and is more than quali-

fied to compete in World Champion-

ships and the Olympics. In fact, he

placed 39th in the 2003 World Champi-

onships in Anaheim, Calif. on vault.

His personal dream and long-standing

goal is to compete in the Olympics.

He trains mainly on parallel bars, floor,

vault and high bar due to space con-

straints in the gym.

This powerhouse of a man began his

gymnastics career at the age of 14 - at

home with no coach. Since then, he

remains mostly self-taught, traveling

to compete and train when feasible, to

places such as New York, Florida,

Puerto Rico and as far as Germany

and Scotland.

Corey performs at a number of local

hotels and clubs as well as in shows

during the Crop Over season. Prior to

this, he secured a position to perform

with Cirque du Soleil – which he later

declined in order to focus on his true

passion – gymnastics.

Corey joined Flip Gym in 1997 and

trains the Girls National Team. He re-

mains committed to building gymnas-

tics in Barbados and sees great poten-

tial for growth but he would also like to

see more males get involved in the

sport.

Corey has some words of advice for

aspiring gymnasts – to perform top

level gymnastics; you need a lot of

heart, discipline and a love for the

sport. It does hurt and there is possibil-

ity of injury. Bring an attitude of willing-

ness to try, and wanting to be here. Be

ready to give it your all.

Corey works hard in the gym everyday

from 11 am to 8pm.

NB: Only about one in a hundred gyms

in the United States is currently pro-

ducing an Elite gymnast and only about

2.2% of gyms, now in existence, have

ever produced even one Elite gymnast.

Given these statistics I would say that

Corey Greenidge is nothing short of

amazing.
