Day 1 Port Wakefield - Mambray Creek - Spencer GulfThis morning please make your way to the pick up location of Chifley on South Terrace, 226 South Terrace by 7:30 am. From here, you will depart with the tour guide and head north, arriving at Port Wakefield for morning tea and a tour briefing at a local coffee shop. You will head further north and stop at Mambray Creek Reserve in the Mount Remarkable National Park for our first walk of the tour. It is only a short 2.5km walk up Davey’s Gully but the views across Spencer Gulf are spectacular. You may spot some local wildlife including emus, euros and kookaburras. After the walk you will have lunch, and continue on to your place of stay at Rawnsley Park Station. Here you will unpack and relax, and nibbles are served by the campfire followed by a two-course dinner prepared by your guides.

Day 2 Heysen Trail - Black Gap - Bridle Gap - Wilpena PoundAfter breakfast and lunch making you will be guided along the Morolana Scenic Drive, where you pass through magnificent River Red Gum woodland, the habitat of many kangaroos, euros and emus, all with the spectacular Flinders Ranges as a backdrop.

The guide will begin the walk on the famous Heysen Trail, leading you into Wilpena Pound. This is one of the very special sections of the Trail, starting with a pretty creek walk through Black Gap, before climbing a section of the Pound

Wall to Bridle Gap. Spectacular views of the Elder Range are revealed to the south as you proceed.

You will walk along the floor of the Wilpena Pound and pause for lunch at Hills Homestead to gain a better understanding of how challenging life was for the 19th century pioneering farmers. From here it is a pleasant stroll to the Wilpena Pound Visitor Centre. There is an opportunity this afternoon for a scenic flight from Rawnsley Park. Your guides will provide you with this information. Nibbles back at Rawnsley Park are served by your guides followed by a delicious two-course dinner.

Day 3 Brachina Gorge - Trezona Loop - Yuluna CircuitAfter breakfast and lunch making, you will depart Rawnsley Park for our days walking. Today you will complete two walks with your guide that offer’s great variety and spectacular views of the Flinders Ranges.

Firstly, travel through the ‘corridor of time’ geological trail, along Brachina Gorge Road which assists in identifying the geological history of the region.

Next, embark on the 3km Trezona loop walk where you will see some of the earliest life forms in the Trezona formation. Your guide will then move on to the Yuluna Circuit at Aroona, where you discover old pastoral ruins and pass through contrasting rock formations and vegetation. The ruins of the old Aroona Homestead, built in the 1850’s, serves as a

reminder of the difficult early years of European settlement. This walk affords lovely views of the Heysen and Trezona Ranges.

You will finish up today’s activities by exploring Brachina Gorge which is one of the park’s most popular and spectacular attractions. Brachina Gorge meanders its way through sharp sawtooth ridges of resistant quartzite. This spectacular gorge was once used as a pass through which bullock teams pulled their loads. Nibbles are served at Rawnsley Park by your guides followed by a delicious two-course dinner.

Day 4 Angorichina Village - Blinman Pools - Parachilna GorgeAfter breakfast and lunch making you will be guided as you head off to the outback town of Blinman, before driving to Angorichina village, to start our walk. Today’s walk is a return journey to the beautiful Blinman Pools. The pool makes for a great place to stop and relax under the magnificent river red gums, or have a swim. These pools are bordered by majestic river red gums, and have been popular picnic spots since the 1800s.

In some places on the trail, sheer cliffs rise almost straight up from the creek bed, providing a spectacular backdrop. The two spring-fed creeks keep the pools filled with water all year round. You will finish your walk mid afternoon and then take a short drive through Parachilna Gorge, to the trailhead of the Heysen Trail, where you will have afternoon tea. Nibbles

will be served before dinning out at the onsite Woolshed restaurant (not included).

Day 5 Alligator Gorge - Mount Remarkable National Park - MelroseAfter breakfast, you will pack up and depart for your last day of tour. Today your guided walk encompasses a gem of the Flinders Ranges – Alligator Gorge in the Mount Remarkable National Park. This walk has some of the most visually stunning scenery you’ll come across in the region. Immerse yourself in the dramatic beauty of high ochre ridges, deep gorges and watercourses lined with river red gums. Alligator Gorge is one of the premier natural attractions in the Southern Flinders Ranges, with Alligator Creek cutting through ancient ABC quartzite.

Your lunch stop is in Melrose (at own expense) before continuing south to arrive in Adelaide around 5.00 pm, with an airport drop off available on request.

ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATIONThe property is situated just outside Wilpena Pound and is the perfect base for exploring the area. Here you stay in comfortable two-bedroom cabins for four nights of the tour. These cabins have two bedrooms with the one shared bathroom between the two rooms, and a shared living area. You can choose a single supplement if you would prefer not to share a bedroom, this means you would have one bedroom in the two bedroom cabin and are likely to be sharing the cabin (and bathroom) with one or two other guests.

LuggagePark Trek ask that you bring a soft bag of max 15kg instead of a solid suitcase. Soft bags are more forgiving in terms of storage and easier for us to handle. Please also be aware that your luggage may get dust on it while travelling in the trailer.

MealsThe food we serve is healthy, hearty and home style. The menus are designed to showcase the fabulous regional produce. Fresh local cheese, yoghurt, fruit, vegetables, fish and meats are used, supporting local farmers and minimising our food miles. Park Trek don’t offer five-star dining, but their guides take pride in ensuring that all meals are delicious and plentiful, prepared with top-quality fresh seasonal ingredients.

Breakfast is a continental spread of cereals, stewed fruit, yoghurt, toast and spreads. Coffee and tea are always available at your

base accommodation.

Lunch can vary from day to day, but includes meat, salad, bread and wraps. Some days might include something different like roasted chicken.

Dinner is a casual two-course meal of main and dessert prepared by your guides. The menu changes to suit available fresh produce but could include a classic roast lamb, salmon fillet or Thai chicken. Dessert may include things like maple baked apples, pears in red wine or seasonal fruit salad.

Snacks Guests can prepare their own trail mix each morning from our self-serve trail mix selection. There will be fresh fruit for the trail and biscuits or fruit cake for tea breaks.

Pre-dinner antipasto Each evening we prepare a selection of antipasto delights, dips, cheese and crackers before dinner.

Dietary requirements Park Trek are able to accommodate guests’ specific dietary requirements and can prepare meals to meet individual needs.

Alcohol Park Trek tours do not include alcoholic beverages, however guests are most welcome to bring wine/beer along with them. If you are bringing bottled wine, please pack this well in your main bag to avoid breakages.

Park Trek suggest you purchase any alcohol that you want to consume at Rawnsley Park, in Adelaide before you head off. The tour guide will do a stop on day one at Quorn, where you can

purchase alcohol but there is a limited selection.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

PICK UP/DROP OFF LOCATION:Park Trek pick up from the Chifley on South Terrace, 226 South Terrace on the morning of departure at 7.30am and return you to the same location in the afternoon of the final day about 5.00pm or to the airport.

Park Trek mini-van and trailer along with Park Trek guides in uniform will be waiting out the front for you. The Guides aim to depart before 7.30am so please arrive on time, so they can introduce themselves and pack your bags into our trailer. Park Trek can drop you at Adelaide Airport on our return if requested.

If you are booking a flight out on the final day, then you need to book a flight that departs from 7pm onwards.

PACKING LIST - WHAT TO PACKYou need your own personal clothing, a pair of comfortable walking boots, toiletries and any personal medication. The most important item for you to have with you is a reliable pair of walking boots. Runners and flat-soled

shoes will not suffice except as something you can wear after the day’s activity. Weather can be quite variable in the Ranges, so a waterproof jacket is very important to pack on all trips, regardless of the weather forecast. At Rawnsley Park we eat dinner and nibbles outside by a fire, in the Winter it gets cold in the evening so bring some warm clothes for sitting outside.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER

Tour Guide: Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader: An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES

Flinders Ranges:The Flinders Ranges present a wide variety of climatic regions. As the wide variety of the plains north of Crystal Brook, the climate is temperate, with an annual rainfall of around

650 mm.

FLIGHTS

Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:At TripADeal we do not arrange seat selection. It is important to highlight that some Airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the Airline directly with seating allocation requirements and or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the Airline once you have your flight information.

COACH TOUR

Meals:11 meals are included in the tour, for all other meals; lunches and dinners the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. It is your responsibility to notify TripADeal of any dietary requests/requirements. Please note; we will do our best to meet your requests/requirements, however cannot guarantee that we will always be able to.

Luggage:You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on the tour. With regards to luggage, you must carry your own luggage from the coach to the hotel room and back to the coach. The driver will assist with the uploading and off-loading of the luggage from the coach.

Fitness Level Required / Mobility:Our vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair access, so unfortunately our tours are currently not suitable for wheelchair users and those less mobile.
