FLIGHT OPERATIONS NEWSLETTER

Boeing 737

Dear Colleagues,

We are into the last and festive quarter of the year. The B737 team wishes all a happy Id, Diwali

and a Merry Christmas! This is the time for celebration. And also to bring in the new year!

Ms. Sanchayita Khidbide is settling down in her new post in the Boeing 737 fleet. She is actively

involved now in working with us on the productivity front. Cockpit crew

utilisation is being looked at seriously and we hope, with your cooperation,

we will be able to optimise our operations.

We would also like to thank each pilot for their continued support in ensuring

that our flights remain manned despite the acute shortage of cockpit crew.

This shortage has primarily been due to non-availability of our simulators in India. In the coming

months the situation is expected to improve significantly as our simulators are now ‘up and

running’. As mentioned earlier, we are also looking at optimising crew and aircraft utilisation and

hope that the pressure will soon ease a little.

The ‘iPad Project’ now has a team dedicated to it. We hope that in the coming months weshould be able to have concrete plans for implementation.

We continue with lessons from line:

As you all are aware, September saw a significant increase in the number of un-stabilized

approaches. Most were late selection of landing flaps. There have also been cases where the

crew have have used the radio altimeter (RA) readout as a reference instead of height above

field elevation (AFE). This has led to landing flaps being selected at low altitudes. It is however

heartening to know that we had no high-energy approaches which were continued to a

landing.

This last month has also seen at least two cases of jet upset as a result of wake from a ‘super

heavy’. We are preparing a document to try and mitigate this problem and it will be available

to all soon. Please look out for it as it will be a very good tool to help in avoiding such

undesirable situations.

We must commend all pilots in the e"ort to make PAs on every flight. Most crew are making

regular PAs and the quality of the PAs is good. This has a direct impact on our overall product

and is much appreciated by the passengers.

WE WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
