Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiPacket Lite

Microwave solution for microcells and rural backhaul

2 Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiPacket Lite

FlexiPacket Lite is a new product of the FlexiPacket Microwave family specifically optimized for microcellular and rural backhaul applications.

Integrated with Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiLite BTS and FlexiCompact BTS, it minimizes the operator’s Total Cost of Ownership, space occupancy and power consumption.

FlexiPacket Lite is a Point to Point microwave solution of FlexiPacket Microwave family in sub-6 GHz frequency, optimized for 3G/4G microcell backhaul and for rural Ethernet backhaul.

FlexiPacket LiteFlexiPacket Lite is a complete microwave system in an outdoor unit with standard (Ethernet) interfaces and integrated antenna. This packet microwave radio offers a host of benefits, including:• SupportofzerofootprintsolutionforTailand

unlicensed TDD spectrum. • Completescalability,supporting5/10/20/40

MHz channel bandwidth • SynchEand1588v2Support The integration in the whole FlexiPacket Microwave family enables end-to-end network functionalities, including advanced QoS, clock Synchronization and Network Management System.

The FlexiPacket Lite application in unlicensed spectrum facilitates fast and easy deployment and savings on the license fee, which, in turn, helps the operator both speed up its return on investment and minimize operational expenses. A complete set of interference counter measures guarantees proper behavior even in an unlicensed environment.Italsoallowsa1:1frequencyreusescheme in licensed spectrum.

Deployment in the sub- 6 GHz bands enables near Line of Sight (nLOS) configurations on access links.

Microcellular 3G/4G backhaul Small Cells are used to “light up” local metropolitan areas with intensive mobile data usage to increase network throughput in specific locations. Typically, these small cells are located at street layer and the average distance among microcells is limited. At the same time, near Line of Sight (nLOS) support is often required due to obstacles typically present in an urban propagation scenario.

To balance the ever-increasing decoupling between network throughput and revenues derived, this wireless backhaul solution shall reduce its Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) so as to result in just a fraction of the correspondent Macro Cell TCO.

FlexiPacket Lite is optimized for urban microcellular backhaul since it guarantees minimized Total Cost of Ownership and site space occupancy, along with optimized installation time, owing to its integration with FlexiLite BTS.

An optimized site solution for both tail (one microwave direction) and chain sites (two microwave directions) is supported allowing a simple network expansion.

Specifications

nLOS capability allows FlexiPacket Lite to work even in the presence of trees, street curves and building corners between the endpoints, typically present in urban scenario.

The support of this nLOS solution in both licensed and unlicensed spectrum provides proper flexibility for selecting the best spectrum strategy for each operator.

FlexiPacket Lite channel spacing scalability and throughput capability makes this solution future-proof both for 3G and 4G microcellular network and its evolution end expansion.

FlexiPacket Lite has been optimized for microcellular backhaul based on tree topology, with traffic aggregation point at rooftop, in a macro-site, and tail, chain or small hub in microsites at street layer. This architecture provides: • Flexiblenetworkconnectivity• Simplenetworkexpansion• Evolutionpathtowardprotectednetwork

architectures• Highercapacityandlessnetworkinterference

with respect to Point to MultiPoint due to directive antennas everywhere

• Sub-mslatencyprovidesinsurancefor4Gbackhaul applications

• Lowernetworkpowerconsumptionwithrespectto Point to MultiPoint due to shorter links

Rural backhaul The mobile coverage required in rural areas requires a backhaul solution optimized for this application keeping in mind both the Total Cost of Ownership and link throughput / length requirements.

Throughput requirements for this application typicallyrangefrom10-100MbpsforeachBTS,whiletypicaldistancesarearound10Km. FlexiPacket Lite Microwave, combined with Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiCompact BTS, delivers an optimized design for rural cells deployment by featuring a true zero-footprint site solution for up to 4 FlexiPacket Lite links.

Network Management Just like the whole FlexiPacket Microwave family, NetViewer provides Network Management

functionalities for FlexiPacket Lite as well. An overall view of the complete network structure and its ability to drill down to Network Element details provides a clear picture of the whole network, its configuration and events. Inventory, Fault, Configuration and Performance management are carried out at the Network Element level, while Service configuration and OAM are supported at the Network layer.
