Nokia FlexiHopper XC provides operators with a cost-effective evolution in capacity, spectrum utilization as well as traffic aggregation capabilities enabled by the nodal indoor unit concept. Straightforward, cost-effective capacity upgrades Nokia FlexiHopper XC supports all capacities up to 40 x 2 Mbit/s through highly cost-effective software upgrades, which help keep lifetime costs as low as possible. The selectable modulation of Nokia FlexiHopper XC adds a new level of flexibility, which protects operator investments in the face of changing regulatory requirements and frequency congestion. The Nokia FlexiHopper XC radio supports both 4-state and 16- state modulations, allowing the operator to choose the modulation best suited to a specific hop and achieve the highest area-based spectral efficiency and capacity in dense urban networks. The radio also meets the capacity demands of operators faced with the growth of data-traffic in networks. Nokia FlexiHopper XC is ready for the data future and enables packet traffic to be shared with TDM traffic in the same hop. Reliable transmission now and into the future Hundreds of thousands of Nokia FlexiHopper microwave radios are in use on all continents. Field statistics have proven the systems’ high availability even in most demanding conditions. For the most critical connections, Nokia FlexiHopper XC architecture enables a multifold increase of link availability by duplicating only the outdoor units. Nokia FlexiHub – more than just an indoor unit The new modular Nokia FlexiHub Node acts as an indoor unit for Nokia FlexiHopper XC, while at the same time it performs the multiple functionalities we are used to finding in stand-alone cross-connect or Nokia FlexiHopper XC Microwave Radio – decoupling capacity and cost with flexible evolution Nokia FlexiHopper XC Microwave Radio extends the capacity of the reliable and flexible Nokia FlexiHopper family right up to 80Mbit/s. Nokia FlexiHub – more than just an indoor unitA new modular Nokia FlexiHub Node acts as an indoor unit for Nokia FlexiHopper XC, but can also function as a stand-alone hub. It supports up to four Nokia FlexiHopper XC outdoor units as well as several Nokia FlexiHopper outdoor units. Connection to the base station is either with E1 or Flexbus cable, thus providing straightforward connectivity when upgrading existing Nokia FlexiHopper sites to Nokia FlexiHopper XC.

Upgrading is further simplifi ed because the Nokia FlexiHopper XC outdoor unit can use the same antennas and antenna alignment units as existing Nokia FlexiHopper units – upgrading can be done by simply swapping the radio units.

Nokia FlexiHub XC is available in a standard 19 inch sub-rack to meet the needs of different sites. With an outdoor casing for the FlexiHub, Nokia FlexiHopper XC can be installed as a complete outdoor solution, for example stacked together with Nokia Flexi WCDMA Base Station.

Nokia FlexiHub XC also features built-in 2 Mbit/s cross-connection that enables changes to be made remotely, avoiding the costly and time-consuming site visits that other microwave radios need.

Simplifi ed network managementNokia FlexiHopper XC works seamlessly with Nokia NetAct™ network management system, which enables an operator to use the same system for both transmission and base station system monitoring. This eliminates the need to invest in a new management system. For situations in which an operator already has another management system installed, Nokia FlexiHopper XC supports standard SNMP management, which enables integration with most management systems.

The Nokia FlexiHub Manager is a graphical element manager for Nokia FlexiHopper XC. It enables remote confi guration, reducing the need for site visits to help operators achieve low network lifetime costs.

Advanced featuresNokia FlexiHopper XC has advanced features to ensure high quality transmission. These include:• Several protection methods: hot standby

and diversity options • One antenna solution for hot standby • Forward Error Correction (FEC) improves

radio performance in demanding conditions

• Automatic fading margin measurement and commissioning wizard to speed up installation

• Low power consumption ensures maximum running time on battery backup and minimizes energy costs

• Small square antennas for unobtrusive installation

• IP-based Engineering Order Wire (EOW) for VoIP telephone use
