To establish communications between AMS Device Manager and the 2700 Mux multiplexer, you

need a HART multiplexer and a termination panel. In addition, an RS-232 to RS-485 converter must

be placed between the 2700 Mux and the computer’s RS-232 port. At the heart of HIS is the 2700 Mux.

It acts as a gateway device, routing communications between the maintenance workstation PC and

the HART fi eld devices.

Each multiplexer provides communication to 32 HART devices. A network is built by multidropping

multiplexers; up to 31 multiplexers can be connected to support a single network with a maximum

of 992 fi eld instruments per communication port on your PC, making it possible to connect virtually

any number of devices to a single AMS Device Manager system.

Our 2700 Mux provides two essential benefi ts: small size and low cost per point. The small

footprint is especially important for retrofi t installations where cabinet space is costly and often

unavailable. For new installations, we offer a wide range of termination panels, that can be used

instead of the DCS I/O panels, where the multiplexer can be mounted directly.

Termination Panels—DCS Specifi c

The Pepperl+Fuchs Elcon panels replace the termination

boards provided by the DCS vendor, and provide a very

simple and cost-effective solution for online HART

communications. The HART information is extracted without

interfering with the 4-20 mA signals used by DCS or PLC.

For proprietary DCS or PLC termination panels, the

most cost-effective and integrated approach is to use

a HIS termination panel as the fi eld wiring termination

assembly. This integrated concept reduces wiring and frees

valuable control room space. The HIS panel provides fi eld

termination and houses the 2700 Mux and fi lters

(if required), to allow direct connection to the I/O cards

using standard DCS vendor cable sets.

External Interface Panels - Parallel Connection

Pepperl+Fuchs Elcon HART panels are designed to

complement the I/O termination panels and provide

access to all HART information.

They provide a very clean, elegant and robust solution

for on-line HART communications. HART information is

extracted without interfering with the 4-20 mA signal

used by DCS or PLC systems.

Our panels can incorporate redundancy,

fi ltering and diagnostic circuitry, and

connect directly via cable to the

DCS I/O termination panels.

External Interface Solutions

Applications

External interface panels are suited for applications where the user:

■ Wants to retain the standard DCS fi eld termination panel

■ Needs to retrofi t an existing installation and online HART communication capabilities

Single Mux Panels

HPSM/32/MM-01–MiniMux (Single Mux) panel with fi eld and control system terminal connection

is suitable for series connection and patching to marshalling terminals.

HPSM/32/TB-02/HF16 (or 32)–Single Mux panel with either 16 or 32 HART fi lters and terminals

for fi eld and control system connection is suitable for pass-through

or patching to marshalling terminals.

External HART Filter ModulesUsed in combination with I/O termination panels, the modules fi lter the HART signal from

the 4-20 mA loop. This fi ltering is necessary on certain applications and is available in both

analog input and analog output confi gurations.

External Interface Panels - Parallel ConnectionFor fi eld devices connected to a DCS or PLC system, field termination panels (FTP) can have a parallel

connection to a remote HIS panel. This connection is established by simply wiring across the fi eld terminals or

by using special 1 “In” 2 ”Out” terminals.

External Interface Panels - Series ConnectionUsed in addition to proprietary DCS or PLC termination panels, but breaking into the loop for a cleaner

“series” wiring solution.

The existing wiring from fi eld

devices to the FTP is removed and

wired through the HIS panel. Using

this approach, the 4-20 mA signal

connects to the control system via a

traditional hardware confi guration,

while allowing a point of connection

High Specifi cation Front End DesignFull three-port isolation is included and each input

channel has dual-capacitor isolation for freedom of

loop connection.

Two decoupling capacitors are provided, one for

each signal connection. Both (+) Ve (positive)

& (-) Ve (negative) signal wires are, therefore,

decoupled from DC signal. Only the high-frequency

digital HART protocol signal passes through to the

internal multiplexer circuitry. Failure of any one

capacitor from either a short circuit or open circuit

means that availability of 4-20 mA control signal will

not be affected.
