"Greenville developer Phil Hughes said he plans an urban village along Interstate 385 in the City of Mauldin with at least 1 million square feet of new apartments, offices, shopping, dining, lodging, and entertainment. And with help from Mauldin, he intends to connect the development to the Swamp Rabbit Trail via a pedestrian bridge over the interstate. The project, which Hughes said would be the first phase of a larger development, would entail a new street grid and multiple new buildings on about 40 acres along I-385 just south of its intersection with Butler Road. The site is bordered by I-385, Holland Road, Bridges Road, and a Greenville Health System distribution center. "

"BB&T Corp. plans a $30 million, 140,000-square-foot mortgage servicing center in Mauldin that will house more than 600 employees, company officials said. The employees work primarily in administrative, back office, and support functions and will relocate to 825 E. Butler Road. The mortgage servicing and other operations now are located at 301 College St. in Greenville. Bank officials planned to break ground on the new facility Thursday. Officials at the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based financial services holding company have said they plan to relocate the main downtown Greenville office from College Street to nearby 2 W. Washington St., where BB&T will occupy nearly 7,000 square feet."

"The state of South Carolina has offered tax breaks to Verizon Wireless in exchange for new jobs at the company’s call center in the Brookfield office park off of Interstate 385 in Mauldin. The state Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the expansion, according to a Feb. 16 news release from the state Commerce Department. Those credits provide a rebate of new employees’ withholding taxes, with the exact amount depending on the pay structure and the company’s location within South Carolina. Abdullah El-Amin, a Verizon Wireless recruiter, told UBJ in late December that the company planned to add 185 customer service workers in Greenville by August and 281 telesales workers by the end of 2017."-Upstate Business Journal, February 17, 2017

Courtyard Marriot

"A developer says the Courtyard by Marriott hotel that he and partners plan in Mauldin will provide a level of lodging service not currently found in the Golden Strip. Todd Whittington, a hotel developer from Greenwood, said he and his partners, Dial Dubose and Wes Nalley of Easley, plan to break ground on the 108-room hotel late this year or early next year near the intersection of Butler Road and Interstate 385. The five-story hotel will be called Courtyard Greenville Golden Strip and should open for business in early 2019, Whittington said. It will be part of the 42-acre Millport at Butler development, where BB&T is building a mortgage processing center that the North Carolina bank has said would employ more than 600 people."
