Well the boating season is over and it’s time to think about winter lay-up. We have about a month before we have to think about frost. Kind of depressing huh? Well let’s not think about that right now. We have some fun things to look forward to with the club. The Pizza Meeting will be next week and it is always fun to hear what happened on cruises and get together with friends, and don’t forget have some food. The flyer for the meeting is in the Fleet Sheet again for reference, and if you want to attend and haven’t responded please call me ASAP, so I can make adjustments to the menu. As an added bonus the club has decided that if you come to the meeting and pay your dues for next year, at the meeting, your cost for dinner will be half price. The Christmas Party is right around the corner too. We have reserved South Shore Yacht Club on the second Saturday in December so please keep the date, and we will be getting more information to you shortly. We are also going to do a repeat of last year and have the Membership Meeting before the dinner and Change of Watch Party. So there will not be a meeting on December 5th. Lisa is also working on upcoming programs to get us through the winter months. Watch for upcoming Fleet Sheets to see what she has put together, and if anyone has an idea for something let us know. Remember it is never too soon to start planning next year’s trips. I have had a conver-sation with Ren about a possible trip to Lake Mendota with the bigger boats, and Boyd and Lisa have already announced a different location for the Labor Day Cruise for next year. We are going to stay in the shipping channel in downtown Sturgeon Bay. If you have an idea for a cruise bring it to a meeting and let’s discuss it.

Hopefully I’ll see you all at the Pizza Meeting, Todd

Wisconsin Boating Club Membership Meeting

Waukesha State Bank/Downtown Location September 12, 2016

Our usual meeting place, Brookfield Civic Center, was not available for our September meeting, so Lisa Dittmer secured the Community Room at Waukesha State Bank. MINUTES: Commodore, Todd Memmel, called our meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. He asked if anyone had addi-tions or corrections to the meeting minutes from our last membership meeting, held in June, and posted in the Fleet Sheet. Boyd Dittmer made a motion to accept the minutes and Russ Weber seconded. The motion carried. PURSER’S REPORT: Purser, Donna Danowski, was not present, so Todd read the report that she submitted via e-mail. The club’s beginning balance was $3,436.28. We had no income. Expenses were for additional post-age, relating to the cruise manuals. The ending balance was $3,418.28. Todd informed the members that the Board has approved the budget for 2017, and announced that there will be NO raise in club dues for next year. Duane made a motion that if members pay their dues AT the October Pizza Meeting, they will receive dinner that night for half-off. Russ Weber seconded the motion. A vote was taken and it passed unanimously. Todd asked for any additions or corrections to the Purser’s report. Linda Weber made a motion to accept the re-port as read. Duane Delaney seconded. The motion carried. MEMBERSHIP: Travis Sarinske was absent. PROGRAMS: Lisa Dittmer reported that tonight’s program would be “knot tying.” Our October meeting will be the pizza meeting. Todd reminded her that she will need a nominating committee prior to the October meet-ing, to assist her in filling open board positions for next year. November will be held at Brookfield Civic Center. We discussed if we should have our December Membership Meeting prior to the Christmas Party at SSYC, which would save everyone from coming out twice during December. Todd will contact Joe Miotke regarding plans made for the Christmas party, and then determine a start time for the meeting – about 30 minutes earlier than the party begins. CRUISE MANUALS AND ADVERTISING: Duane Delaney reported that all advertisers have paid. Every-thing should be complete until it’s time to start on next year’s book. SAFETY: Jim Kaun was absent, so there was no report. GRIEVANCES: None FLEET SHEET: Pete was absent, so we agreed that all information for inclusion in the next Fleet Sheet should be submitted to Pete before September 26th. LEGISLATIVE LIAISON: Keith Ponath reported that there’s not a lot going on. He again said there was no Harbor Safety Committee meeting this summer. There should be one held in October. // The DNR plans to stock half as many fish this year in Lake Michigan because there are not a lot of Zoo Plankton. Fishing has improved, even with less fish, however there is more water depth than there’s been in a very long time. He then discussed the ecology of fish.

WEBSITE: Keith said he hasn’t looked at the Website and asked for anyone’s opinion about what should be included, and where it should be located. Ren wants direction from the club as to the format. It was sug-gested that pictures be added AFTER everyone is back home from a cruise. MARKETING: No report. SUNSHINE: Keith Ponath had cataract surgery, and seems to be doing well. Lynne Happel is healing well from a fall she took down a flight of stairs at SSYC. OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: None MISCELLANEOUS: None DATES TO REMEMBER:

Participants: Joe & Peggy Miotke Pete Zierden & Guest Robin Dates: July 29th thru August 10th

It was unfortunate that there were only two boats on this North Channel cruise since we had the warmest weather and the warmest and calmest water we have ever experienced on the North Channel. Temperatures were in the 80’s with a few days in the lower nineties. There were two periods of rain that lasted about 15 minutes each and that took place in the early morning and early evening. Water temperatures in the anchorages were between 76 and 78 degrees and the worst waves we battled were about 6” high for the entire trip. Some of the noteworthy differences from other trips were the disappearance of the “Red Bus” for “Fish & Chips.” It was replaced by a new building with outdoor ordering and seating and also indoor seating. A completely rebuilt marina and resort at the “Mountain View Lodge.” Getting into marinas such as Gore bay, Little Current and Killarney was not a problem. Reservations were not required. We cruised to the usual locations of Gore Bay, Benjamin Islands, Little Current, McGregor Bay, Killarney, and Bay Fine. At McGregor Bay the higher lake levels made it possible for us to navigate the cut with the dingy’s and make a complete circle route of the lakes. It was a great trip and Joe and Peggy were awesome to cruise with.

Fall Pontoon Trip – Eagle River

Wednesday 9/14/2016 – Lloyd and Chris checked into Chain O’Lakes Campground and confirmed the reservation for the pontoon boat on Friday and Saturday. Thursday 9/15/2016 – Keith and Margaret arrived at Chanticleer. Lloyd and Chris made a trip to Rhinelander to discuss the repairs, or the lack of repairs, on their camper which has been at the local dealership since early August. Friday 9/16/2016 – Rain started by mid-morning and was not expected to end until late in the afternoon. The decision was made to cancel the half day of cruising on Friday and visit the shops in Eagle River instead. It’s always a good idea to get shopping in early and often. A very rain-soaked Peter and Robin arrived on the Harley at Chanticleer in mid afternoon. Duane and Jennifer, and Jim and Robin also arrived by mid afternoon. After a couple hours for shopping the weather cleared. Everyone returned to the Chanticleer and met for cocktails and snacks on the patio overlooking the docks. Everyone enjoyed watching the steam boats and talking to the boat owners. Dinner was at Tijan’s Twelve Pines. After dinner, Lloyd and Chris went to the campground and everyone else returned to Chanticleer. By then the sky had cleared and there was a beautiful full moon overlooking the water and the return of the steam boats. Saturday 9/17/2016 – The day was overcast and cool. Keith and Margaret drove to Chain O’ Lakes campground and joined Lloyd and Chris on the pontoon boat at 10 am. Everyone else was picked up at Chanticleer around 11am. Plenty of beverages and snacks were loaded on the boat and the cruise continued through Eagle, Otter, Duck and Yellow Birch Lake. The steam boats were also out on the water. There was also a sighting of the pirate ship, as well as eagles, loons and other wildlife. After a short stop in Eagle River, the cruise continued down the river to the Wisconsin River, and then up the Wisconsin River. Lloyd was the pilot and he had nine navigators with differing ideas on how far up the river the trip should go. Eventually, the cruise turned around and returned to Eagle River for an ice cream stop. After leaving Eagle River, the cruise continued back past Chanticleer and through Voyageur, Catfish, and Cranberry Lake. After a quick stop at Chain O’Lakes Campground the trip continued to the Burnt Rollways dam and boat hoist. After watching a boat being lifted over the dam, all returned to Chain O’Lakes by around 5 pm and unloaded the boat. Everyone car pooled to Chanticleer for cocktails and snacks on the patio, followed by a late dinner at Chanticleer.

Everyone agreed it had been a good day.
