The custom build began in August with a fleet ofpassionate and dedicated volunteers who work with Hand-s4Hope youth to design, build, decorate, paint and staffthe Haunted House, DeLeon said.
More than 10 adults and 30 youth will be trained, cos-tumed and choreographed to deliver a terrifying experi-ence for guests. Most of these student volunteers attendOak Ridge High School.
The reason I like helping out with the Haunted Houseis because I like using my creative abilities to help makea difference in our community, said Chidinma Ohanele,18, Oak Ridge graduate. The Haunted House is such abig event for Hands4Hope, and the money raised duringthe event goes towards the funding of various outreachprojects. Also its just a lot of fun being behind the scenesof such a great project.
Ohanele volunteered while in high school and stillcontinues to help Hands4Hope after graduating.
Other students enjoy the volunteer aspect, as well.My favorite parts about volunteering at the Hand-
s4Hope Haunted House are helping with the preparationand work that goes into building it, said Haley Lehtola, 17,
Oak Ridge senior, and then being able to see the commu-nity coming together to support Hands4hope while having
lots of fun.Other young volunteers enjoy the scare of
the event.I love doing this haunted house because its
a fun way to earn money for the organization, said Riley Fitzpatrick, 18, Oak Ridge senior. Ienjoy seeing the looks of terror on their (attend-ees) faces.
The haunted house is recommended onlyfor those 13 years and older.Local schools will also participate, promot-
ing School Nights at the Temple of Terror tobenefit a student-selected club or program.
The students are involved in creating theon-campus marketing plan and promotions, giv-ing them a great experience in real-life businessmarketing, DeLeon said.
For the schools Night at the Haunted
Hands4Hope volunteers Riley Fitzpatrick, 18, Oak Ridgesenior, on ladder, and Haley Lehtola, 17, Oak Ridgesenior, work backstage to ensure the vibrant colors andsound effects will stay frightening throughout the haunt-ed house tour.
Hands4Hope volunteers Chidinma Ohanele, 18, Oak Ridge graduate, and Andrew Bassett, 17,Oak Ridge senior, will help guide people through the El Dorado Hills haunted house.
House, the selected club or program earns $1for every student who attends with the schoolscustom flyer.
Hands4Hope Youth Making A Difference,is a youth-driven nonprofit organization basedin El Dorado County, serving El Dorado andSacramento counties. According to DeLeon, theorganization empowers youth in kindergarten
through 12th grade to make a positive differ-ence in the world through exploration, actionand leadership.
