I t is a very shocking and bitter fact that Samsung which claims Pakistan’s top selling brand im- ported mere 19,204 handsets, which tells the poor performance of its Pakistani management team itself. According to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) released the import of Samsung handsets fig- ures for the month of February 2012. It depicts the real face of ill-skilled Samsung’s management team in Pakistan, as Pakistani telecom market experiencing expansion with every passing day, as Pakistani cellular users topped 111 million mark in a country of 180 million population, while the Korean handsets maker’s Pakistani team imports only 19, 204 handsets, which means 1 handset for 10,000 people pathetic; the hilarious proportion de- picts Samsung popularity and credibility. There are many reasons but key reason of failure is Samsung’s pathetic management in Pakistan. The head is responsible for managing and con- trolling the company’s business and day-to-day op- erations with the aim of securing significant, sustained increase in the value of the company. Sam- sung totally failed to provide good services to the cus- tomers as major customers have numbers of complaints regarding sales and services, helpline non-attendance, inferior quality handsets, etc. The rumours hovering in the market that Muller & Phipps Pakistan (M&P), a medicine distributor company, will be new distributor for Samsung mo- bile phones. It means the Korean management is thinking to change its strategy in Pakistan to boost its business and get rid of the present management team, which led Samsung on the verge of total col- lapse. Mobile phone users in Pakistan reached 111 mil- lion and its population in the estimated to be 188 million – higher by 2.1 percent than the last year. The country’s population has been growing at a deceler- ating pace but still Pakistan has one of the highest population growth rates in the world. The imports of mobile handset witnessed growth of 58 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2011-12 compared with corresponding period of previous fiscal year, reflecting high domestic de- mands of customers for multiple brands. According to the figures of Federal Bureau of Sta- tistics (FBS), the expenses of mobile handsets are on the rise as Rs 14.25 billion were spent on the imports of various brands. As per estimates, the handset sales have in- creased to 0.125 million handsets on monthly basis having price range between Rs 1,000 to Rs 55,000. According to the dealers the mobile handsets market is changing its dynamics constantly in the past three months with number of global and local branded phones increasing their shares tremen- dously. The Samsung management in Pakistan lacks market knowledge and hence failed to fulfill cus- tomer’s demands and hilariously incompetent in solving problems, which led Samsung in complete loss. Another reason for the failure of Samsung in Pakistan is the non-professional attitude with rev- erend clients. The service support from Samsung is really pathetic. “Samsung Electronics admitted that its attempt to breach the tablet market has largely been a flop, with one executive offering a sobering summary of its performance,” Roger Cheng reported. “‘Honestly, we’re not doing very well in the tablet market,’ Han- kil Yoon, a product strategy executive for Samsung, said during a media roundtable here.” “That Samsung hasn’t met expectations in its tablet business isn’t a huge surprise; the company lags well behind Apple’s iPad and even Amazon’s Kindle Fire in the US market,” Cheng reports. “Sam- sung, however, appears to remain confident that the Galaxy Note will take off.” Cheng reports, “The 5- inch version, which is already out in the market, has been hit by a string of criticism, largely due to its size. While it acts as a phone, it looks more like a tweener product in between a smartphone and tablet, calling some to label it a ‘phablet.’ Yoon said he expects to ship 10 million units of the 5-inch Galaxy Note, lofty expectations for a company still smarting in the tablet business. He believes the S-Pen–the stylus that comes with the device–allows users to more easily create content, rather than consume it. Samsung ear- lier this month announced a 10.1-inch version of the Galaxy Note. The rumours hovering in the market that Muller & Phipps Pakistan (M&P), a medicine distributor company, will be new distributor for Samsung mobile phones.
