MEMORANDUM SCOPUS ENGINEERING LIMITED

To: All Surveyors From: Scopus QA/QC

Subject: Flange Survey Requirements Date: 31/07/14

Reference: Flange Survey Requirements

There have been instances recently where TP flanges have been calculated incorrectly. In some

cases this has caused Pipework to be fabricated dimensionally incorrect and subsequent rework

required.

Upon investigation the surveyed Flanges have had a thickness of 0mm input during Survey

calculations causing the 3D Asbuilt position of the Flange to be incorrect.

The investigation also revealed that no log file data showing the input Flange thickness of 0mm was

 present in the relevant field.

Input of the correct Flange thickness, Interrogating flange survey data and log files, being aware that

some data may be missing and making corrective action prior to formal issue of results is of

paramount importance and the responsibility of both Surveyor and Survey checker.

All Scopus surveyors are therefore reminded that all dimensional control surveys, processing,

finalising and issuing of formal results must be in accordance with Scopus LRQA ISO 9001 2008

accreditation and in house procedure SCOP-DSC-003.

It is of the utmost importance that ALL Survey results are correct at time of issue and any incorrect

input of data identified and corrected pre issue.

Included is a typical example of Flange data input with 0mm thickness which in turn places the

surveyed Flange in an incorrect position- correct input of data also included

Note- the Survey Program Code is currently being modified to prevent a thickness of 0mm being

entered.

However, prior to the issue of the updated Survey Program ALL Surveyors must be aware of the

issues noted above and ensure input of 0mm or incorrect input of Flange thickness are identified and

corrected prior to the formal issue of Survey results.
