Intensive Programs Academic Calendar 2013-2014
The distinguishing element of the Andrés Marín Flamenco Abierto Dance Studio is that we offer Intensive
Programs from 1, 3, 6 or 9 months to several years at different levels. You can start an Intensive Program
at any time provided the course can be completed within the academic year which begins on September
2nd, 2013 and finishes on June 27th, 2014.
We establish 3 levels in the Flamenco Dance Intensive Programs:
The Flamenco Dance Intensive Programs have been created for all those students committed to flamenco
who wish to become professionals of this art, whatever their goals: to become part of a flamenco company,
promote the Andrés Marín Company or even successfully set up a company or school of their own.
This is why we have highly qualified teachers: in dance, with Andrés Marín, Belén Maya and Vicky Barea,
and in cante (singing), with Segundo Falcón. All the essential contents technique, choreography and cante
are worked weekly with the commitment and respect that flamenco requires. .
Why is it necessary to learn how to sing in order to dance flamenco? Dance is the connector between the
singing and the music. Therefore, it is necessary to assimilate the nature of the different styles in order to
give them the necessary character, and then personalize the style to your feelings and interpretation.
The Beginner-Intermediate Level Intensive Program consists of 40 hours of classes per month with an
emphasis on the development of dance technique footwork, arms, hand movements, rhythm, balance,
posture, alignment. Skills acquired in technique are put into practice in the choreography classes. Students
will have the opportunity to understand the basic structures of various cante forms, and to sing them, through
our weekly master classes. With more than 350 training hours in the 9-month Intensive Program, the price
per hour comes out for less than 5 !
For the experienced dancer, we offer several options to study more or less intensively. You can choose
between 38, 50 and up to 66 hours of classes per month! Whether you are looking to take your technique
to the next level or to deepen your understanding of the relationship between singing and dancing, our
Intermediate-Advanced Level Intensive Program options can help you achieve your goals.
You can attend personalized tutorials with instructor Belén Maya for advise on how to achieve your artistic
and technical objectives and develop your dance in greater depth so that you can fully benefit from the classes.
These tutorials are completely free of charge.
Advanced dancers will have the opportunity to study intensively with two consecrated artists: in dance, with
Andrés Marín and in cante, with Segundo Falcón. By working simultaneously on a singular palo (flamenco
style) in the intensive dance and singing classes, students can obtain an integral knowledge of flamenco.
Andrés Marín is one of the most significant artists in flamenco today. His productions
have centered on traditional flamenco and, specifically, on classic flamenco singing
(cante); not from a conventional perspective, but through a radical personal vision
and an utterly contemporary style. In his classes Marín uncovers the essence of
flamenco so that students may develop their own personal expression.
Belén Maya is considered one of the most important bailaoras of her time and
a pioneer of avant-garde flamenco dance. A versatile and creative artist, she has
inspired a whole generation of dancers. Her works stretch and renew the traditions
of flamenco dance while maintaining the essence and integrity of the art form.
Right now she is one of the most sought-after flamenco teachers worldwide.
Vicky Barea has performed in festivals such as the Bienal de Flamenco of Seville.
In addition to her vocation as a dancer, Vicky Barea is an exceptional and dedicated
teacher, recognized in Spain and abroad. She is regularly invited to give master
classes and workshops in many European countries.
Segundo Falcón is voice of reference on today´s flamenco scene. He has enjoyed
an extraordinary career as a soloist and as a singer for dance. Standing out
amoung the many awards he has won is the Giraldillo prize for Best Singer at the
13th Bienal de Flamenco and Best Flamenco Album for "Un Segundo de Cante".
In addition, our Intensive Programs include:
- Certificates for obtaining visas and scholarships.
- Attractive discounts for Christmas and summer courses, as well as for all parallel activities.
- Diploma for the hours taken and level reached

Tutorials with Belén Maya.
Tutorials play an important role in classes with Belén Maya. The teacher uses them for personalised monitoring
of her students, as well as for advising them on achieving both artistic and technical objectives to improve
and develop their dance. Therefore, she proposes a final exercise in the form of a solo in which the students
under her tutelage create a piece taking into account all of its aspects (artistic creation, costume, music, etc).
These tutorials are completely free of charge.
Performances. We encourage performances by students of the Andrés Marín Flamenco Abierto Dance Studio
through participation in alternative traditional and local venues. Moreover, we promote them on their first
artistic steps through social networks (Facebook and Twitter). These performances are fundamental for putting
the knowledge acquired into practice. To this end, we have created the Andrés Marín Flamenco Abierto
Students Company, under the guidance of maestro Marín, for the Schools most outstanding students.
Private Classes. The teachers are always available to provide classes especially designed for your needs.
You can take just one hour or several hours annually. We only need prior notice of when you want your lessons
and what you would like to work on so that the teacher can best prepare your lessons.
Parallel Activities. We promote parallel activities to supplement the annual program: workshops on palmas
and compás, bata de cola, castanets, as well as lectures on cante or the history of flamenco.
Special Courses, such as in summer and at Christmas, are also an ideal opportunity to study intensively with
highly qualified teachers while enjoying Seville.
Spanish Lessons. Andrés Marín Flamenco Abierto organizes private or group classes.
