CATALINA COUNTRY CLUB FIXTURES GUIDE 20205

THE IDEALS OF MEMBERSHIPGolf relies on the integrity of the individual to follow the rules of Golf and to show respect and courtesy to other players. The Club expects Members to show the same consideration for others as when in the Clubhouse. Our Club will be judged on the behaviour of its Members and its effects on the enjoyment of the game. The Club expects visitors to share the same standards of conduct. This booklet is primarily concerned with the Golfing activities of the Club.

The Board of Directors of the Club has issued a number of By-laws that affect the conduct of Golf at this Club, which are:

By-law 9 – Rules of the Course

By-law 10 – Owning and Driving a Cart

By-law 11 – Junior and Cadet Golf

By-law 22 – MiClub online Competition Golf Booking

The Board has also sanctioned a Code of Conduct for Members, Guests and Visitors which applies both inside and outside the Clubhouse.

Current versions of these documents are to be found on the Club website and can also be read at Reception and the Pro-Shop. Should this document be at variance to them, the current versions will have precedence. Members must familiarise themselves with their contents.

CATALINA COUNTRY CLUB FIXTURES GUIDE 20206

Under the reformed Royal and Ancient Rules of Golf 2019 (1.2a) the Match Committee is empowered to disqualify any competitor for serious misconduct for which the Rules has no fixed penalty. The Committee has not at the time of writing chosen to introduce stroke penalties for lesser misconduct, but this may change in the future.

Please note that events and dates in this booklet are subject to change, please check the Club website regularly.

DRESS STANDARDSClub dress regulations have been developed by our Board to achieve a satisfactory club standard. Members and their guests not correctly attired will be asked to leave the course or clubhouse. Regulations regarding dress code are displayed in the clubhouse and Pro Shop.

NOTE:

1. Persons not complying will not be permitted on the course or in the clubhouse.

2. Caddies and persons accompanying members must adhere to dress regulation’s, members are responsible for the dress and conduct of their guest.

RULES OF THE COURSEIn the following paragraphs, quotations from By-law 9 are in italics:

1. Members, guests and visitors are required to report to the Pro Shop before playing the course or using any practice facility. An authorising receipt will be issued whether or not any payment has been required

2. All competition golf will be conducted according to the R&A/USGA Rules of Golf.

3. Only packaged alcohol purchased at the club may be taken onto the course. Beverage glasses served within the clubhouse are not permitted on the course at any time.

4. The dress code as displayed outside the Pro Shop must be adhered to. Caddies and persons accompanying members must adhere to dress regulations. Members are responsible for the dress and conduct of their guest. Anyone wrongly attired may be required to leave the course.

5. Greens Staff have right of way on the course at all times.

6. Members transiting the course must give way to those playing the course. It is forbidden for any member not playing golf to be travelling opposite to the direction of play on, or adjacent to, a fairway if in range of a shot being played.

Page 11: FIXTURES GUIDE · CAPTAIN Oroya Mitchell 4471 1034 VICE-CAPTAIN Helen Bunsell 4471 2455 ... Nobody should move, ... depending on the event. 11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum

7. Players are not to hit up on preceding players, but should at all times be ready to play without delay. Nobody should move, speak or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.

8. Bunker rakes are to be placed outside the bunker, and where practicable away from the normal line-of-play. Rakes are to be placed with the handle parallel to the direction of play, and whenever possible on grass that is not cut to fairway length. Players must fill in divots, smooth footprints and leave the bunker as they expect to find it. Enter and leave only on the low side of a bunker and do not walk on its face unless it is unavoidable.

9. Players searching for a ball should signal the following group to pass through as soon as it is apparent that the ball is lost, and not after the three minutes search time has elapsed. Players must not continue until those who were following have passed through and are out of range.

10. A group which is falling behind and is more than one clear hole behind the group ahead must allow the following group to pass. Failing this courtesy, the group following should request and has the right to expect that they will be allowed to play through. The group overtaken must not play on until the overtaking group is out of range. A group losing one clear hole may incur a two-stroke penalty per player, pair or group, depending on the event.

11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum of two) is permitted in a practice round provided there are not more than two players in the group – three or more players can only hit one ball each.

Page 12: FIXTURES GUIDE · CAPTAIN Oroya Mitchell 4471 1034 VICE-CAPTAIN Helen Bunsell 4471 2455 ... Nobody should move, ... depending on the event. 11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum

CATALINA COUNTRY CLUB FIXTURES GUIDE 20209

12. Motorised Golf vehicles must remain outside the black line markings around all greens (if present) which indicate no-go areas, otherwise, they must remain a minimum of 5 metres from any tee, green or bunker (unless on a formed path). Motorised golf vehicles must not be driven over mounds surrounding greens or bunkers. Authorised owners and second drivers of carts must be familiar with By-law 10

13. Buggies, bags or carts are to be left on the exit side of the green and must not be parked directly in front of the green whilst putting. When play of the hole has been completed and any damage to the green repaired, players must immediately leave the area from the rear or from the side of the putting green.

14. Buggies and pull carts are not to be taken on to tees or greens.

15. All players are to carry and use sand to repair any player damage caused or observed around the course.

16. Use of the Practice Range must be in accordance with the displayed rules. Hitting from other than the defined area (red pegs), hitting beyond the range boundary, and hitting balls back towards the tee area from the range are prohibited. All members using the range are to sand fill their divots before departing the range.

17. Players will not use profane or abusive language, throw or break their clubs, wilfully damage the course in any way, or criticise the course, the competition, or club officials.

MOBILE PHONES. When playing competition golf at Catalina, players may carry a mobile phone, which should be kept on silent and only used with due consideration to other players.

CATALINA COUNTRY CLUB FIXTURES GUIDE 202010

THE PACE OF PLAYIt is not the intention of these guidelines to penalise players, but to bring to player’s attention the accepted methods whereby they can improve their pace of play and avoid inconveniencing other players who also wish to enjoy their golf

It is expected that a round of golf at Catalina should not take more than 2 hours for 9 holes and 4 - 4¼ hours for 18 holes. In the Rules of Golf, Rule 5.6 is relevant to the pace of play. A player who does not abide by the Rules may be disqualified. Slow play causes great frustration to all the other players on the course. For everyone’s sake, let us avoid it by:

1. Not starting a round early: this causes hold-ups in the flow of play, particularly on the Par 3 holes. This may be waived by the Starter.

2. Sticking to your booking time and allowing the group in front the 8 minute interval between tee-times

3. Maintaining your place in the field. Remember, your place in the field is immediately behind the group in front and not in front of the group behind.

4. Playing “Ready Golf”:

• Move briskly to your ball between each shot, don’t wait alongside your playing partner/s, go directly to your ball and be ready to play when it is your turn;

Page 14: FIXTURES GUIDE · CAPTAIN Oroya Mitchell 4471 1034 VICE-CAPTAIN Helen Bunsell 4471 2455 ... Nobody should move, ... depending on the event. 11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum

CATALINA COUNTRY CLUB FIXTURES GUIDE 202011

• If you are a shorter hitter play first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters are having to wait;

• Play your tee shot if the person with the honour is not ready to play;

• Play your shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball (remember 3 minutes is the maximum time to search for a lost ball);

• If a ball is known to be in a penalty area do not waste time trying to retrieve it at the expense of the following players, return later to find it; and

• Play or putt out of turn when it is appropriate to do so.

5. Not dawdling on the green. When you reach the green, move to your ball and repair any pitch marks. Where possible, line up your putt prior to your turn to putt. If your ball needs to be marked, do it as quickly as you can. Anticipate the requirements of your fellow player. Move back and line up your putt whilst other players are putting. Except in match play, and where you will stand on someone else’s line, when you start putting, continue until you have holed out. If playing a par or stableford event and you can no longer score on that hole, pick up your ball and let others continue.

6. At the end of the round, checking and submitting your card without delay, to hasten the issue of the results.

Page 15: FIXTURES GUIDE · CAPTAIN Oroya Mitchell 4471 1034 VICE-CAPTAIN Helen Bunsell 4471 2455 ... Nobody should move, ... depending on the event. 11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum

CHILDREN ON THE COURSEIn the interest of safety, children under the age of ten (10) years are not permitted on or about the playing area (including the practice area) of the golf course, unless they are either under the immediate care and supervision of an adult, or they are a Junior Member of this club. However, the senior staff in the Pro-shop may grant exemption to such children who are playing members of some other registered golf club. When in a cart, children must remain seated, and under no circumstance will a child drive a cart.

DOGS NOT PERMITTEDDogs are not allowed onto the golf course or into the club house. This restriction does not apply to Guide Dogs and other special needs dogs.

CATEGORIES OF GOLFING MEMBERSHIP &

RESPONSIBILITIES

ADULT GOLFING MEMBERSHIPSAll applications for adult golfing membership must be by persons proposed and seconded by two golfing members. Membership can only be granted by the Board of Directors. Once membership has been granted, it is the responsibility of Proposer and Seconder to ensure, without undue delay, that the new member is not only introduced to the President, but also that they are sufficiently advanced in the knowledge of the Rules of Golf to be competent to perform the duty of marker for a fellow competitor. Proposer and Seconders should play with their nominee until competence is achieved.

CADET AND JUNIOR MEMBERSHIPSElevation of a Cadet to Junior membership depends upon application by a parent or guardian on behalf of the applicant, plus an assessment by the Junior Golf Committee that the Cadet has reached an adequate standard. For an applicant who was a recognised Junior at some other club, application by a parent or guardian is again required, plus an assessment by the Chair of the Junior Golf Committee. Cadet Membership is administered by the Junior Golf Committee.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR NEW MEMBERSIt is the responsibility of Proposer and Seconder immediately a Nominee is elected to membership, to ensure that such new member is (i) introduced to the President, Captain and other members; (ii) above all, is sufficiently advanced in the knowledge of the Rules of Golf to be competent to perform the duty of marker to a fellow competitor. Please see that you play with your Nominee until he or she is so equipped.

NEW WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEMThe World Handicap System (WHS) took effect in Australia on Thursday 30 January 2020. www.golf.org.au remains the only authorised website where you can view your handicap record.

The WHS is a joint initiative of golf’s two international governing bodies, The R&A and the United States Golf Association. These two bodies have worked together with the world’s major handicapping authorities to develop a single handicap system for the game. Golf Australia is one of the organisations that has been closely involved.

The WHS involves less change for Australia than it does for any other country. But whilst your handicapping experience will remain largely the same, we will see a few changes in Australia.

Please visit www.golf.org.au for all of the latest information on the WHS.

BOOKING SHEETS & STARTING TIMES

see also By-law 21

1. Computerised booking for competition golf (MiClub software) is available on-line or on the computer kiosks in the clubhouse or the Pro-Shop.

3. Access to clubhouse kiosks requires member number only. NB. A member may book other playing partners including visitors.

4. Timesheets usually opened at 6:00 pm,15 days before the event.

5. All time sheets are closed at 4:00pm the day before competition day, to allow the Pro Shop to prepare for the competition. Members will still be able to view the time sheet on-line to determine if there are available vacancies but will need to phone the Pro Shop during normal shop hours to access any such vacancies as the reserve list process closes when the time sheets close.

6. Certain events, such as Championships and Major Events will require the submission of an entry form with a pre-paid fee.

7. Competitors who are unable to play in an event on the day of that event for which they are booked must notify the starter as soon as possible. On-line cancellation is possible on any day preceding play except for ‘special events’.

8. The time of a booking on the MiClub system will be taken as the player’s start time (R&A 5.3(a)), subject to possible variation by the Starter. A player who arrives late may be permitted to play the competition at a later available time at the discretion of the Starter.

9. A Golfing Member may invite guests onto the course. The number of guests permitted on any given day will not be restricted; however, numbers may be constrained to ensure fellow members are not disadvantaged. If a member wishes to bring multiple guests to play in a single formal competition the Member concerned must apply to the Captain. Guests within a Member’s yearly allowance of 12 will enjoy discounted green fees. The Member is still free to invite more guests, but without any discounts. A Guest’s attendance on the course may be in a competition or as a social player: in either case, the guest must be in the same playing group as their inviting Member, which may cover a number of tee times simultaneously booked If a guest enters the Clubhouse, they must be accompanied by the inviting Member and must be signed in by them.

10. Members of the Catalina Professional Golf staff and visiting professionals with a Golf Australia Handicap are welcome to play in all club competitions but are not eligible to win prizes.

RULES FOR USE OF MOTORISED VEHICLES

1. Motorised Golf vehicles may be used in any Club competition.

2. Any person wishing to use private motorised vehicles MUST apply to the General Manager for approval (conditions can be found on Club Catalina Members Web Page). Each application will be considered on merit.

3. The considerable increase in the use of motorised transport has caused the Board to examine ways of minimizing harm to the course and interference to other players. Vehicles must, therefore, meet the club’s minimum standards with regard to:

• silencing (electrically driven vehicles are, therefore, preferred and will, ultimately, be the only vehicles accepted), and,

• potential to cause damage to the course (weight and wheel width are critical to this assessment).

• NB, standards have been determined and are on display on clubhouse noticeboards.

• Any new application by a member seeking permission to use private motorized transport must comply with these standards.

4. Motorised Golf vehicles must not be driven any closer than 5 meters to a tee, green or bunker.

Page 26: FIXTURES GUIDE · CAPTAIN Oroya Mitchell 4471 1034 VICE-CAPTAIN Helen Bunsell 4471 2455 ... Nobody should move, ... depending on the event. 11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum

CATALINA COUNTRY CLUB FIXTURES GUIDE 202023

5. Motorised Golf vehicles must not be driven over mounds surrounding greens or bunkers.

6. To prevent areas of high wear or soil compaction the Club Catalina Course Superintendent may mark Black Lines to restrict MGV right of entry.

7. MGVs Are Not Permitted To Pass Over Black Lines Marked On the Course.

8. Failure to comply with the above will result in MGV privileges being withdrawn.

9. Motorised Golf vehicles must generally be kept a distance of at least 20 metres from other golfers making a shot and are to be turned off when near tees and greens.

10. Motorised Golf vehicles should not be left unattended in any areas that limit access to entrances, walkways and pathways.

11. Motorised Golf vehicles are to be driven at a speed that is safe, responsible and with due courtesy to all other members.

12. Drivers of Motorised Golf Vehicles must have a valid NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) or state/territory equivalent driver’s licence.

13. Access to the Pro Shop from the cart shed is only permitted by way of the service path and bridge provided (do not drive across the 18th fairway).

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE RULES COULD RESULT IN THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE PRIVILEGE OF MOTORISED GOLF TRANSPORTATION.

4. FOURSOMESTwo players play as partners and use one ball. The partners hit off from alternate tees and thereafter strike the ball alternately during the play at each hole. Handicap allowance is 1/2 of combined handicaps.

5. MIXED FOURSOMESMixed Foursomes are played in the same manner as Foursomes except that the Ladies use their own tees.

6. CANADIAN FOURSOMESPlayed as above except that both team members play tee shots at every hole and afterwards continue with whichever ball they nominate. Handicap allowance is 3/8 of combined handicaps.

7. TWO STROKE CANADIAN FOURSOMESTwo Stroke Canadian Foursomes requires each partner to play two strokes with his/her own ball before proceeding to alternating play.

8. AMERICAN FOURSOMESBoth players play tee shots at each hole, then play a second stroke with their partner’s ball. One ball is then selected and play proceeds as in Foursomes with the owner of the ball selected playing the third stroke. Handicap allowance is 3/8 of combined handicaps.

9. IRISH FOUR BALLPlayed by a team of four, three or two. The score for each hole is the best two Stableford scores obtained by any two of the four in the team – 2 scores only to be recorded. The scorecard must show each team member’s handicap. The scorecard is to be signed by the marker and countersigned by one other team member.Note:- If your score cannot beat the other two scores pick up and mark a spot in the W column of the scorecard.

10. PROGRESSIVE IRISH FOURBALLPlayed as above except that teams may be of 3 players and scoring is recorded as follows: 1st six holes best 1 of 4 scores 2nd six holes best 2 of 4 scores 3rd six holes best 3 of 4 scores Same scorecard requirements as above

11. DROP-OUT AMBROSEA team stroke event usually played by a group of four, (but may be 2 or 3) no drop out if less than 3 players. Each player plays a tee shot on every hole, the Captain of the group then selects the ball to be played, the player whose ball is chosen does not play the next shot except on the green where all players putt, play proceeds as follows:

Page 31: FIXTURES GUIDE · CAPTAIN Oroya Mitchell 4471 1034 VICE-CAPTAIN Helen Bunsell 4471 2455 ... Nobody should move, ... depending on the event. 11. The playing of a second ball (a maximum

Tee ShotsEach team member must contribute at least four drives per eighteen (18) holes if there are four players in the group, and five drives when a team consists three (3) players. The scorer must record whose tee shot was used on each hole.

On the FairwayThe position of the selected ball is marked and each player then places a ball within one club length of the marked position but no nearer the hole. There is any order of play.

Off the FairwayAs above except that the placement must be in the same conditions as the marked position (i.e. hazard, rough, bunker).

On the Putting GreenOther balls must be played from within one putter-head length either side of the selected marked ball, and no nearer the hole. Once any ball is holed-out, no further strokes are permitted.

ScorecardThe scorecard must show each team member’s handicap and is to be signed by the marker and countersigned by one other team member.

12. 4 BALL STABLEFORD MULTIPLIERPlayed in teams of two. Each player must record a stableford score for each hole played (even if the score is zero). The two scores are then multiplied together to give the team score for each hole.
