LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

J. Stokeseditor-in-chief

FIVE Readers,

In this issue, we are focusing on Summer in Pensacola. FIVE had the privilege of working with the House of Bosley and Joe Damaso for a hot summer shoot. There are two articles, you don’t want to miss. In addition, be sure to check out pho-tos from Hangout Fest.

Looking forward to a fall forecast? The 5th Issue of FIVE Magazine will be our first print issue. We are currently working on finding locations that you can grab the magazine from. I am truly excited with what we are doing here at FIVE and even more thrilled for what is to come.

We survived the Pensacola heat and now headed for the cool weather seasons. Put away the Bathing Suits and Board Shorts. Pull out those light cardigans and LAY-ERS! It is time to celebrateWe hope you have a de-lightful rest of summer and spend some time soaking up the sun and relaxing.

Summer Fashion Essentials by, Brandi Welk

A Pensacola summer is jam-packed with sandy beach visits, long nights on Palafox Street, Wahoos game shenani-gans and of course, every girl’s not-so best friend . . . HEAT! We weren’t called the “Sunshine State” for noth-ing. (Although, that can be debatable these days!) With the high humidity and the urge to still look fabulous, there are some summer fashion essentials that every glamour girl MUST HAVE! It starts with a day at ole Pensacola Beach. Make sure your closet has a few different swim suits that are flatter-ing for your body type, grab your favor-ite shades, and NEVER forget the sun-screen. As bad as we all want to have sun-kissed skin, we also don’t want to look like grandma’s old leather bag by the time we’re 30. For a night on sinfully sweet Palafox Street, cut-outs and crop tops are definitely hitting the scene. Play a little peek-a-boo, but don’t get crazy! Other haute looks for summer in Pensacola include maxi dresses, pas-tels, printed pants, fringe, high-waisted ensembles and WEDGES! We have all heard that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Yes, they are . . . but, so are wedges. Not only do they look killer with almost any outfit, but they are comfort-able and virtually impossible to break your neck in! Summer in Pensacola is about living it up and letting loose with your gal pals. Don’t let the heat get you down, remember to accessorize, and let your personality handle the rest!

MEN’S

Page 33: FIVE: Volume 1. Issue 4

It’s June in Florida its 97 degrees outside at 4 in the afternoon and you’re thinking of stepping out on the town later, and you’re staring at your closet as if it’s the Bar Exam. Fear not, the answer to the age old question “what shall I wear tonight?” is often times made more complex than it needs to be.

Summer has the reputation of being the most casual season of the year, because of the blistering heat. Some would say that flip flops, or open toed shoes are never the answer for men’s footwear. Well that is half correct. We live in the sunshine state, and we are never far from the beach. A brown, khakis or tan flip flop, on the boardwalk or at a beach bar will do the job nicely. However if you feel as if you may find yourself under some strobe lights at a club or even on a date, a white, or lighter color slip on shoe may be your best bet.

As the outfit moves up to the shorts or pants don’t be afraid to show some color. Here is a good time to stick out from the crowd, where undoubtedly 90% of the males in the room may be wearing dark jeans, or shorts. There’s nothing wrong with that, however there is room here to utilize the color spec-trum. If the beach is the destination for the night, I would go with a blue-pastel chino short. However to a club or on a date, you may feel like you should go with the classier chino pant. A red pant would really go well with a brown slip on boat shoe, or a slip on white van low top.

Last but maybe most importantly, the first thing people will notice when they see you, your shirt. I am very partial to a long sleeve button up. It’s one of the most versatile things in the closet. It can be worn under a blazer, or vest. It can be worn over a t-shirt. But I think it’s time to roll up the sleeves gentlemen, literally.

If the pants and shoes were both lighter colors, let’s say white, and red. It would be wise to go with a sobering color shirt, maybe a white, or a faded baby blue. A t-shirt would also be a great option for almost anything. However I personally wouldn’t go with one with too much writing on it. Less is more when it comes to tops.

But remember gentlemen the fit is sometimes more important that the color, or price or anything else. You want it to loosely hug not strangle. It doesn’t matter what you wear as much as it mat-ters how you wear it.
