1. Less Is More—Be mindful of your eating. Eat slowly and consciously, and eat only at your prescribed mealtimes and until you are 80% full. (Remember, it takes 30 minutes for your brain to register your stomach is full, so it’s best to stop eating before you feel completely full.) But, be sure you feel satisfied after you eat. No need to starve here. You can use any other recipes you like as long as they include only the ingredients listed in the Friendly Foods above.

2. Drink Purified Water—Water is very important when cleansing because it helps your body process toxins. Make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of fresh, pure water. Remember, juices, smoothies, and soups are not the same as simple water and don’t count toward the 64 ounces.

3. Avoid Sugar, Corn Syrup, and Dairy—Avoid putting sugar or other refined sweeteners (like corn syrup) on or in anything. If you are drinking tea, make sure to sweeten it with only honey, agave syrup, stevia, or sucralose. (Acceptable dairy or milk-based protein powder.)

4. Drink Herbal Tea—You can support your body to cleanse by drinking lots of herbal teas—peppermint and ginger are particularly nice. You may also like to buy a pre-made cleansing tea blend at your health-food store.

5. Do Other Things to Help—Add in some of the additional suggested super foods and the suggested activities that support weight loss which are included above. Pick ones you enjoy and incorporate them.

Be Prepared!You’ve likely heard the old adage, “Fail to Plan, Plan

to Fail.” Well, it is best to be very well prepared before beginning a healthy cleanse or detox. So we recommend you take the sample grocery list with you to the store and buy the foods you’ll be enjoying for the next week and then shopping each week. It’s also good to be familiar with the types of recipes you can prepare, which are included below.

One other tip to help you throughout each day: You will be drinking multiple hot detox drinks, so if you’re going to be out and about or even at the office all day, it’s a good idea to bring them with you. You can simply heat up all of your servings for the day in the morning and place them in a BPH-free thermos to easily take with you and drink throughout the day.

Finally, you may be consuming more liquids and fiber than you have in the past, and this can affect how often you need to eliminate (i.e., you may need to go to the bathroom more frequently).

Additional Diet-Approved Recipes: Eggs No-Benedict: poach two eggs (eating yokes is acceptable) and place on top of one slice of whole-grain, gluten-free bread (toasted or plain) with a large slice of tomato.

Old-Fashioned Oatmeal: Place desired serving of oatmeal with water in the microwave or on a stove top and cook per directions. Add eight walnuts, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and stevia to taste for a quick, surprisingly filling breakfast.

Vegetable Soup: Heat 2 Tbsps of olive oil in a soup pot over medium heat. Add 1 large diced onion and cover until just starting to brown. If you like it spicy, add a teaspoon or two of paprika or chili powder—to taste. Add two cups of vegetable broth, 4 diced tomatoes, and then add your favorite vegetables, such as a medium yellow summer squash, a couple of cups of green beans (cut into 2 inch pieces), etc. Then add in 2 cups of spinach and 2 Tbsps Apple Cider Vinegar and heat through. Top with fresh basil or cilantro depending on your taste. This recipe makes four servings.

Easy Egg Pancake: mix together 1 egg + 1/3 cup gluten-free oatmeal, then lightly spray/coat a pan with olive oil or coconut oil. Pour mixture into pan and cook until firm. Top pancake with your favorite sliced berries and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Breakfast Smoothie: Put plain yogurt with ½ a cup of your favorite berries into a blender with three ice cubes and one cup of water. Blend until smooth. For an extra healthy punch, add a handful of fresh spinach—you’ll never even taste this powerful nutrition, but it will turn your drink a bit green. If you like it a bit sweeter, you can also add some stevia. And if you want to increase your protein, you can add a scoop of Eat-Smart whey protein.

Veggie Scramble: Slice about a cup of your favorite diced veggies and put them in a skillet with a little olive or coconut oil. Sauté them until crisp tender. Gently whisk your eggs and toss them with the veggies until the eggs are cooked completely. Season to taste.

Homemade Muesli: Mix old-fashioned rolled oats, oat bran, chopped walnuts, and sunflower seeds in a bowl. Then top with stevia and fresh apples or berries and enjoy.

Salmon Salad Delight: Mix 4 oz of salmon (grilled, steamed, or broiled) with ½ cup of warm asparagus (steamed); 1 cup mixed green salad; broccoli florets, cucumber, and celery and top with 1 tablespoon flaxseed oil (for dressing); salt and pepper to taste.

Cream of Asparagus Soup: Bring 2½ cups vegetable broth to a boil and add 1 pound fresh asparagus, chopped, ½ sweet potato, thinly sliced, ½ onion, diced, 3 ribs celery, chopped. Cook for 30 minutes and then blend in a blender until almost smooth. Return to the stove top and add 2 Tbsps brown rice flour and allow 10 minutes to simmer and thicken. Season to taste.

Cream of Broccoli Soup: Bring 2 ½ cups vegetable broth to a boil and add 1 pound fresh broccoli, chopped, ½ sweet potato, thinly sliced, ½ onion, diced, 3 ribs celery, chopped. Cook for 30 minutes and then blend in a blender until almost smooth. Return to the stove top and add 2 Tbsps brown rice flour and allow 10 minutes to simmer and thicken. Season to taste.

Tokyo Bowl: Steam your choice of veggies (such as broccoli, onions, carrots, cabbage, kale, zucchini, and watercress) and place on top of cooked brown rice. Add cooked chicken or tofu and seasoned with your favorite Chinese spices or curry. There are endless variations of both vegetables and seasonings, so you’re bound to find some you love.

A Big Salad: Start with plenty of delicious greens and add your favorite chopped vegetables (like tomatoes, carrots, beets, cucumber, etc.). Add half a dozen nuts, your favorite friendly salad dressing (try Miso mixed with olive oil or apple cider vinegar mixed with flaxseed oil), then top with some sliced avocado. You never knew a salad could be so tasty and filling!

Veggie Delight: 1 cup of mixed greens salad with sliced cucumbers, carrots, celery, tomatoes, and broccoli with 1 Tbsp flaxseed oil (for dressing); salt and pepper to taste; and optional, fresh-squeezed lemon juice over top.

Devine Cilantro-Lime Chicken: Grill, broil, or steam 4 oz of boneless, skinless chicken breast that’s been marinated in lime juice and sprinkled with cilantro. Serve with steamed Swiss chard or okra and ½ cup shredded cabbage with ½ Tbsp flaxseed oil.

Chicken Salad Extraordinaire: Start with a large salad loaded with all of your favorite vegetables (spinach, asparagus, broccoli, cucumber, carrots, etc.) and top with shredded baked chicken breast seasoned with garlic and your favorite spices. Top with homemade olive oil vinaigrette.

Spicy Chicken Soup: Take four chicken breast halves and place on baking sheet. Top with chili powder and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and shred or chop. While chicken is baking, heat 1 Tbsp olive or coconut oil in a soup pot and cook ½ cup onions and ½ cup celery until soft. Add 1 cup of water and 3 cups of either vegetable or organic chicken broth to pot. Season with 2 tsps cumin, and ¼ tsp black pepper, and chili powder to taste. Simmer for 30 minutes and add 1 cup diced tomatoes, 1 Tbsp fresh cilantro, and chicken. Topped with plain Greek yogurt and avocado instead of sour cream and cheese.
