How it's 3D printedPrecious Plated Metal models are fabricated using a complex seven-step process. First, the model is printed in wax using a specialized high-resolution 3D Printer. It is then put in a container where liquid plaster is poured in around it. Once the plaster sets, the wax is melted out in a furnace, and the remaining plaster becomes the mold.Molten brass is poured into this mold and set to harden. The plaster is broken away, and your product is carefully cleaned and hand polished. Each product goes through two plating steps - first a layer of palladium is applied to provide strength and durability. Then your selected precious metal plating provides the finishing touch.

ProcessCleaning excess powder from the 3D printed molds is our biggest limitation in manufacturing porcelain. The mold is an inverse of the product itself, where solids of the product are empty space. Laser sintering the mold leaves its interior full of loose powder. We carefully blow it out with compressed air through the flat base of the model, but tight cavities far from the base opening are hard or impossible to clean. This means that models which are complex and have multiple holes in walls or long wires become increasingly hard to print. If you need to troubleshoot, try making the model solid and based on a single "core".Because of the molding process, some surfaces may contain seam lines and marks from the funnel. We do our best to repair the surface of the model but because this is done manually there may be some trace memory of these marks left on the surface.

Look and FeelFrosted Ultra Detail and Frosted Extreme Detail are both made of a UV cured acrylic polymer. While both offer high resolution, Frosted Extreme Detail uses a 16 micron layer height to produce incredibly fine features, making it a great choice for miniatures, model trains, and products with very fine embossed or engraved details. Both materials are well suited for painting, and are relatively brittle, especially when features are thin. The material is heat resistant up to 80°C / 176°F degrees.
