entation…and attire!However, there are some who believe that artistes
shouldn’t degrade themselves, especially when itcomes to attire.They point out that a good, quality voice doesn’t

izing this dance will missthe dynamic vocals ofSandra Jackson, whopassed away this year.She was the frontline

The Shakin Stevens concert was the talk-of-the-town, and it did become a reality,on Friday, October 13th, at the SLECC, in
Colombo.Eager and enthusiastic fans, of the singer,
flocked to the venue, and it was a full house.However, it didn’t turn out to be a mind-
blowing concert.Those who checked out the concert,
expecting to see Shakin Stevens, as theyhave seen him do his thing on YouTube, weredisappointed – naturally, because he is now70, and no more the youngish looking, hand-some guy we see on YouTube doing ‘This OleHouse,’ ‘A Love Worth Waiting For,’ ‘Oh Julie,’‘Marie Marie’ and the rest of his greatest hits.
But…yes, there were some who enjoyedthe concert as they just wanted to be a partof the Shakin Steven scene – not taking intoaccount his age, his appearance, no bobbing,etc.
Shaky, no doubt, has slowed down, andalso his voice was a bit pitchy, at times.
Throughout the concert, it wasn’t exactlythe voice most of us are familiar with – hav-

ing heard what he sounds like onhis discs and YouTube. Again,one has got to consider his age!But…70 isn’t very old. The bandwas excellent, though.
The first set did contain a fewof his hits but mostly tracks fromhis 2016 album, ‘Echoes of OurTimes’ - an album alien to mostof us.
The crowd was a bit worried,thinking that it was going to be aself-indulgent concert.
Thankfully, the scene changed,in the second session, withShaky doing more of his famoushits which pleased the audience.
Songs like ‘A Love WorthWaiting For,’ ‘Marie Marie,’ OhJulie,’ and ‘Green Door’ were tooirresistible for the dance enthu-siasts, in the crowd, and theyquickly went into action, on thefloor.
While enjoying themselves,dancing, they brought discomfortto some of the high-priced ticketholders.
Their view of the happeningson stage was obscured by thosegyrating, right in front!
The organisers should takenote of this and reserve a place,either on the left or right side ofthe stage, for those who gener-ally find the music infectious andneed to move.
The concert came to an abruptend with Shaky going backstageand the audience remaining intheir seats, expecting the singerto return.
It was only when the halllights came on that they knew itwas all over.
It was a disappointing end,indeed!
