Five-minute speech• You should prepare a short speech that could be modified for

various situations that you may encounter while you are in Japan. JMOCS participants will be giving a speech as part of your morning briefs. For CI participants, you may need a speech for various events you will attend. Prepare the speech so it covers the following topics. Use my example as a guide. Do not just recopy it with your information. You should personalize it! 　 . If there is something you don’t know how to say, write it in English and we will help you.

• A draft is due 4/8 as an attachment to both Zimmerman 先生 and Yu 先生 .

• You will be tested on this speech during the week of April 25-29. It should be memorized.

One common form of talk is small talk. Small talk can be viewed as the talk before the “real” talk begins. The real talk may never begin in the case of meeting someone on the street. So what would small talk look like?
