Many people have put their prejudices aside, and have mostly found the online dating scene

to be yet another great way to easily meet people.

However, there are some who regard using the web to find romance as wrong. Their

preference, rightly or wrongly, is to use the traditional methods such as family introductions,

bars, clubs and social activities rather than online. Sure, these traditional 'real world'

traditions have their place. But more and more people are discovering the benefits of using

In this article, I'm going to give you five excellent reasons for trying online dating. My

thoughts are aimed at those of you who haven't tried it yet. I hope to at least dispel a few

If you go to a social event with some friends, how many people could you get to know in one

evening? Maybe five to ten? Well, if you're set up on a dating site, you could contact maybe

fifty or more people in just a few hours. Furthermore, using various search options, you can

choose to contact only certain types of people. And people on dating sites are just like you -

looking to meet someone.

At that social event - the person you like may in fact have a partner, or not be interested in a

relationship. Online, you are virtually assured that most people on the dating site are keen to

meet someone special.

Reason #2: Security

On a dating site, you can be anonymous. You communicate with other people using that

site's messaging system, which won't disclose your name or other personal details. Looking

for someone over a certain height, with blue eyes, left-wing political views and vegetarian?

And you also want them to be a non-smoker, and between 30 and 35 years of age? This is

very easy to do as a search on a dating site. So your search results page will be a short-list

of people meeting YOUR criteria. Why waste time talking to people (as you do at social

events) who don't share your values? With online dating, you can be 'choosy' about who you

want to meet.

Reason #5: It's a Numbers Game

There are millions of people using dating websites every day. In your country, there are

bound to be many thousands of people using such sites, and this gives you enormous

flexibility. In the days before internet dating, friends used to say to me, 'it's a numbers game' -

meaning you have to meet many people before the right one is discovered. Online, you can

meet so many people so quickly, that what would take months in the real world, can be

achieved in a week or so using the internet.

I hope the above gives you some food for thought. I'm not saying the 'old ways' are no good -

there are advantages to meeting someone face-to-face first; but online dating has many,

many advantages and is an opportunity you can't afford to miss. And it can cost you

absolutely nothing - there are many free dating sites out there who won't charge you any

money, ever. They're a good place to get started with your online dating adventure!
