Zachariah said to the angel who was speaking with him, “What are these?” And he answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.” Then the LORD showed me four craftsmen. I said, “What are these coming to do?” And he said, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah so that no man lifts up his head; but these craftsmen have come to terrify them, to throw down the horns of the nations who have lifted up their horns against the land of Judah in order to scatter it

Zachariah 1:18-21

He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11-13

These five were given “until”

• Apostles• Prophets• Evangelists• Pastors• Teachers

• Custodians of the mission and DNA of the church• Pioneers• Dream Awakeners• Ensure that the faith is transmittable to context and to the next generation.• Always thinking of the future, bridging barriers, developing leaders and networking translocally.

Apostles

• Heart Revealers and conscience of the church• Maintain faithfulness to God, guard the covenent• Help us come into the presence of God• Question the status quo• Visionaries who disrupt our lives with God’s words• Know God’s will are are attuned to current truths• Challenge common assumptions

Prophets

• Recruiters for the Kingdom of God• Naturally infectious and gifted communicators• Our story tellers eqquiping us all to tell our stories• Help us have a bigger heart for those outside the Kingdom and to be redemptive to all of society

Evangelists

• Shepherd, nurture and maintain health• Affirm others and create community• Bring healing and protect as caregivers• Soul Healers who help us work through hurts• Make the church feel like a family

Pastors

• Understand, Explain and bring wisdom• Thinkers who can train and inspire learning• Communicators who ground us in scripture and construct transferable doctrine.• Light givers who help us hear God in the text.

Teachers
