FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

1 PLAYING AREA
1.1 DIMENSIONS
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the free zone shall
measure a minimum of 5 m f rom the side lines and 6.5 m f rom
the end lines. The f ree playing space shall measure a minimum of
12.5 m in height f rom the playing surface.
1.2 PLAYING SURFACE
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Competit ions, only a w ooden or
synthet ic surface is allowed. Any surface must be previously
approved by the FIVB.
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, white colours are
required for the lines. Other colours, dif ferent f rom each other,
are required for the playing court and the f ree zone.
PART 2 - SECTION 1: GAME
1.3 LINES ON THE COURT
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the at tack line is
extended by the addit ion of broken lines f rom the side lines,
w ith >ve 15 cm short lines 5 cm w ide, drawn 20 cm from each
other to a total length of 1.75 m. The “ coach’s restrict ion line” (a
broken line w hich extends f rom the at tack line to the end line
of the court , parallel to the side line and 1.75 metres f rom it ) is
composed of 15 cm short lines drawn 20 cm apart to mark the
limit of the coach’s area of operat ion.
1.4 ZONES AND AREAS
OFFICIAL VOLLEYBALL RULES 2015-2016
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the warm-up areas,
sized approximately 3 x 3 m, are located in both of the bench-
side corners, outside the f ree zone.
1.5 TEMPERATURE
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the maximum
temperature shall not be higher than 25° C (77° F) and the
minimum not lower than 16° C (61° F).
1.6 LIGHTING
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, the light ing on the
playing area should be 1000 to 1500 lux measured at 1 m above
the surface of the playing area.

3.1 STANDARDS
3.2 UNIFORMITY OF BALLS
FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, as well as Nat ional or
League Championships, must be played w ith FIVB approved
balls, unless by agreement of FIVB.
3.3 FIVE-BALL SYSTEM
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, >ve balls shall be
used. In this case, six ball ret rievers are stat ioned, one at each
corner of the f ree zone and one behind each referee.

4 TEAMS
4.1 TEAM COMPOSITION
– a maximum of tw o assistant coaches,
– team therapist
For FIVB, World and Of>cial compet it ions for Seniors, up to 14
players may be recorded on the score sheet and play in a match.
The maximum >ve staff members on the bench (including the
coach) are chosen by the coach him/herself but must be listed on
the score sheet , and be registered on the O-2(bis).
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, a medical doctor and
team therapist should be part of the Delegat ion and accredited
beforehand by the FIVB. However, for FIVB, World and Of>cial
Compet it ions for Seniors, if they are not included as members
on the team bench, they must sit against the delimitat ion fence,
inside the Compet it ion-Control Area and may only intervene if
invited by the referees to deal w ith an emergency to the players.
The team therapist (even if not on the bench) may assist w ith
the warm up unt il the start of the of>cial net warm up session.
4.2 LOCATION OF THE TEAM

the buzzer and then the hand signal to request t ime-out .
For FIVB, World and Of>cial Compet it ions, in sets 1-4, two
addit ional 60-second “Technical Time-Outs” are applied
automat ically when the leading team reaches the 8th and 16th
point .
In the deciding (5th) set , there are no “Technical Time- Outs” ; only
two t ime-outs of 30 seconds durat ion may be requested by each
team.
During all t ime-outs, the players in play must go to the f ree zone
near their bench.
