Properties and Installation
Visual Claro-T, is a durable, concealed grid fiberglass ceiling panel.
Decoustics' Claro is an acoustically transparent finish that mimics the appearance of drywall/plaster. It
can be colored to match any paint chip. . The Claro finish is applied to the face and edge of the panels
to create a monolithic appearance. Decoustics Claro custom acoustical coating can be used in both
ceiling and wall applications above head height.
Tactile Decoustics’ acoustical ceiling systems and panels reduce reverberation and noise transmissions.
Light Reflectance 90% - standard white CSW-100c
Auditory The method of installation and type of drywall can reduce sound transmission through walls and
ceilings. Several builders books state that thicker drywall reduces sound transmission but engineering
manuals recommend using multiple layers of drywall, sometimes of different thicknesses and glued
together, or special type of drywall designed to reduce noise. Also important are the construction details
of the framing with steel studs, wider stud spacing, double studding, insulation, and other details
reducing sound transmission.Sound transmission class (STC) ratings can be increased from 33 for an
ordinary stud-wall to as high a rating as 59 with double 1/2" drywall on both sides of a wood stud wall
with resilient channels on one side and fiberglass bat insulation between the studs.
Performance In accordance with National Building Code requirements, and ASTM E84 test protocol, Decoustics has
complete panel assemblies tested to the ASTM E84 standard, at independent laboratories. Test data
for the panel components are also available.
ASTM E84 Test Results Flamespread less than 25, Smoke Developed less than 25.
Environmental . As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Claro T Ceilings is a leader in the effort to provide
building materials that promote sustainable design. Its products help contribute points toward LEED®
certification as Claro T ceiling panels contain a high recycled content.

Properties of Drywall
Visual Premixed finishing compounds contain a mixture of talc, calcite, gypsum, silica, limestone, dolomite, mica,
perlite and water.
Tactile Drywall is smooth with absence of texturing , paper covered,, pressed gypsum wallboard that covers most of
interior walls.
Auditory The method of installation and type of drywall can reduce sound transmission through walls and ceilings.
Several builders books state that thicker drywall reduces sound transmission but engineering manuals
recommend using multiple layers of drywall, sometimes of different thicknesses and glued together, or special
type of drywall designed to reduce noise. Also important are the construction details of the framing with steel
studs, wider stud spacing, double studding, insulation, and other details reducing sound transmission.Sound
transmission class (STC) ratings can be increased from 33 for an ordinary stud-wall to as high a rating as 59
with double 1/2" drywall on both sides of a wood stud wall with resilient channels on one side and fiberglass
bat insulation between the studs.
Performance Gypsum board is used to construct strong, high quality walls and ceilings that offer excellent dimensional
stability and durability. Surfaces created using gypsum board are easily decorated and refinished.
Care & Maintenance Ceiling Systems require no more maintenance than painted drywall ceilings. However, when maintenance is
necessary, certain procedures should be followed to insure continued high performance and attractive
appearance.
Economic It is an inexpensive wall surfacing material that provides a fire resistant interior finish. Gypsum board building
systems can generally be installed at significantly lower labor costs than most alternate systems.
Safety & Health Like many building products produced during the 20th century, drywall finishing compound manufactured prior
to 1980 may contain asbestos. Asbestos fibers contribute to mesothelioma and other serious heath conditions.
Never sand or disturb joint compound installed prior to 1980 without checking with a demolition or abatement
professional. Even modern finishing compound, which contains no asbestos, can pose health hazards. Wear
proper eye protection and a dust mask while sanding to avoid irritating eyes, lungs and nasal passages.
Sociological While many contractors consider application of finishing compound as an art form in itself, modern versions of
this product allow handy homeowners to finish walls at home without hiring a contractor.
Environmental Because up to 17% of drywall is wasted during the manufacturing and installation processes and the drywall
material is frequently not re-used, disposal can become a problem. Some landfill sites have banned the
dumping of drywall. Some manufacturers take back waste wallboard from construction sites and recycle it into
new wallboard. Recycled paper is typically used during manufacturing. More recently, recycling at the
construction site itself is being researched. There is potential for using crushed drywall to amend certain soils
at building sites, such as sodic clay and silt mixtures , as well as using it in compost.
Main Lobby, Auditorium, Library and Halls / Drywall Ceilings & Walls (Gypsum board)
-Gypsum board is the generic name for a family of panel products that consist of a noncombustible core, composed primarily of
gypsum, and a paper surfacing on the face, back and long edges.
-Gypsum board is one of several building materials covered by the umbrella term “gypsum panel products.”
-All gypsum panel products contain gypsum cores; however, they can be faced with a variety of different materials, including paper
and fiberglass mats. Gypsum board is often called drywall, wallboard, or plasterboard.
-It differs from other panel-type building products, such as plywood, hardboard, and fiberboard, because of its noncombustible core
and paper facers.
-When joints and fastener heads are covered with a joint compound system, gypsum wall board creates a continuous surface
suitable for most types of interior decoration.
Ease of installation
-Gypsum board building systems are easy to install for several reasons.
-Gypsum board panels are relatively large compared to other materials.
-They come in 48- and 54-inch wide sheets and in lengths of 8, 10, or 12
feet, so they quickly cover large wall and ceiling areas.
-Gypsum board assemblies require only a few tools for their construction. -
Gypsum board can be cut with either a utility knife or a variety of saws, and
it can be attached with a variety of fasteners, including screws, nails, and
staples. It can also be adhesively attached to many substrates.
-Gypsum board is a lightweight material.
-Two workers can easily handle most panels and cover large areas in very
short time periods.
-Gypsum board is easily finished
using either a few hand tools or
relatively modest machines.
-Gypsum board installers can
quickly learn most application
techniques in a few hours.
Installation
Sound isolation
-Preventing the transfer of unwanted sound to adjoining areas is a key consideration when designing a building, specifically when taking into
account the intended activities of the occupants in the various parts of the building.
-For example, a building containing office spaces adjacent to manufacturing facilities requires more noise-reducing features than are typically
necessary in a building that has only office space in it.
-Gypsum board wall and ceilings systems effectively help control sound transmission. Some construction techniques and gypsum board
building systems that are successfully used for sound isolation and control are described and illustrated in Section VII.
Properties of Decoustics’ fabric wrapped panels with AirRenewTM
Auditorium
Visual Decoustics fabric wrapped panels with AirRenewTM fabric technology are
available in 110 different colors with a variety of textures.
Tactile Decoustics’ acoustical fabric wrapped wall and ceiling panels featuring AirRenew® fabric technology consist of
AirRenew® fabric stretched or bonded over a formaldehyde-free fi berglass core. Panels are supplied with
factory installed devices for different types of mounting such as mechanical, adhesive, magnetic or hook and
loop fastenings.
Auditory Panel construction provides sound absorption for improved room acoustics. (ASTM C423: Type F5 Mounting
as per ASTM E795)
Performance Acoustic testing was preformed on a panel finished with an acoustically transparent fabric.
Care & Maintenance Refer to Vendor
Economic Between $30 -$50 a 24”x24” tile but thickness may increase the price.
Safety & Health -Safely converts VOCs into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor which evaporate into the air
- Breaks down pollutants and odors.
- Provides protection against the growth and transmission of bacteria that comes into contract with the panel
(bacteria that may damage, discolor or create odor on the panel will not be able to spread).
Sociological AirRenewTM fabric is available on Decoustics’ large range of acoustical wall panels. Various sizes, shapes and
curves are available to meet individual project requirements.
Environmental constantly seeking ways to contribute to a better environment. Decoustics is a member of the U.S.

Properties of Terrazzo
Visual Stone finish that contains marble chips of different sizes and colors and is held together with a cement base or,
in newer application, held together with a resin or epoxy base.
Tactile Smooth surface that is a mixture of 70% or more coarse marble aggregate and 30% or less Portland cement
matrix.
Auditory It doesn't have any sound absorption properties.
Performance Ancient terrazzo floors created centuries ago still stand in many buildings throughout Europe, the middle east
and far east. Epoxy terrazzo floors are even more durable and can often be expected to outlast the life of the
building in which they are installed.
Care & Maintenance Most terrazzo is coated with a wax and the waxes have a tendency to collect dirt and to yellow, which will
require stripping and re-waxing. Given the non-porous nature of epoxy terrazzo, only minimal cleaning is
required. Ease of maintenance is one of the principal reasons why terrazzo is found in so many buildings
where traffic is heavy.
Economic The cost to Install Terrazzo Flooring averages $8.43 - $11.32 per square foot in 2014. This Terrazzo Flooring
Installation cost estimate is calculated from average material costs, unit labor productivity rates and national
average hourly labor wages.
Safety & Health 0.6 Anti-Slip COF when used with a UL-listed “slip resistant” sealer
Sociological Terrazzo brings design flexibility not available in other flooring systems. An unlimited color range coupled with
a plethora of aggregate options from mother of pearl, to marble, to recycled glass; these are among the many
advantages offered by terrazzo.
Environmental In terms of green technology, there are no surfaces that compare with terrazzo. Possessing a compressive
strength of nearly 500 pounds per square inch, some of the earliest terrazzo-like floors created almost 10,000
years ago still exist in the middle east today.

Properties of Carpet
Visual Like any other textile material, carpet has certain inherent characteristics that may affect its appearance over
time. This are and may vary in color, Dyelot Variations, Fading/Color Loss, Matting/Crushing, Roll Crush,
Seams , Shading, Shedding , Sprouted Tufts, and Wrinkles.
Tactile Depends on the specification. In this case for a high traffic carpet it is usually rough,
Auditory Sound absorption coefficients, the fraction of incident sound energy that is absorbed by a material, usually vary
strongly with frequency. A noise reduction coefficient (NRC) is used to grade the effectiveness of a material
employed for sound control. The average of the coefficients at 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz (from low- to high-
pitched sounds).
Performance Good performance begins with clear specifications which meet the needs of the functions to be performed and
is completed with a maintenance plan to be put into effect immediately upon installation. The omission of any of
these four items can seriously affect the perceived or actual performance of the carpet. Satisfactory
performance of any carpet selected depends on the specification of proper construction, color and carpet fiber
content. Maintenance will have a greater effect on the appearance of the carpet than any other single factor.
Care & Maintenance -Frequent thorough vacuuming.
-Prompt spill cleanup.
-Periodic professional care and cleaning
Economic Carpet will maintain its life and beauty for many years when properly cleaned and maintained. In terms of both
labor and cleaning supplies, carpet saves you money over the long run.
Safety & Health -Carpet Keeps Allergens Out of the Air
-The Lowest Emitter of VOCs
-Carpets and rugs provide better traction than other flooring options, preventing falls.
-Less Noise, More Productivity
Sociological -Whether you’re choosing broadloom or modular tile, carpet is easy to customize. You can choose from many
thousands of carpet styles and colors to create a work environment that reflects your company’s corporate
culture. In an educational or health-related setting, you can use calming colors to provide a good environment
for healing or learning. Examples of this characteristics to choose are among Saxony, Texture, Frieze , Cable,
Loop, cut and Loop.
Environmental 96% of stains cleared just with water causes no degradation of Internal Air Quality.

Performance The color and texture of vinyl wallcoverings are solid throughout the entire material. Occasional nicks and
scratches are virtually hidden within the beauty of the design and embossing. With limited maintenance, vinyl
wallcoverings will maintain a clean and fresh look for years.
Care & Maintenance The normal cleaning of the wallcoverings should be done with mild ingredients such as soap, detergent, and
water. If stained and stronger cleaning is required, the use of a liquid household cleaner (ex. Lestoil®) should
be used.
Economic When deciding the best alternative for an interior, paint or vinyl wallcovering, the costefficient
choice would appear to be paint. Over time, however, vinyl wallcoverings prove to be a more economical
choice. For example, the costs for paint or wallcovering for a typical 8 ft by 12 ft office with 8 ft ceilings with 320
