Auguststartedwithabang:WereturnedfromthemountainsandIsaiah’sbirthtopassoutthousandsoftractsatthefair,andthemonthcontinuedinthesamemanner.Attheendofthemonth,weheldan

evangelisticcampaigninthemainplazawithapreacherfromVenezuela.PraisetheLordthatwesawthreepeoplemakeprofessionsoffaithduringthatweek.PrayforgrowthinDavid,Daysi,andAdan.It

wasaweekofgreatencouragementforourentireteam.

Septemberfoundusholdingapastors’luncheonandthenpreparingforourvisitors’arrivalinmid-September.Asalways,wewerebusywithpersonalevangelism,discipleship,andchurcheventsin

anticipationofmyupcomingtrip.OnSeptember17ourdoctorfriendandhiswifeNateandAmy(Hearn)Copelandarrived.Thevery

sameafternoonweloadedallofourcampinggear,tracts,videoprojector,medicine,andNateandItook

offinataxiforthemostupriverportavailableforaboutthreehoursuntilwegottoasmallriver.There

weunloadedallofourgear,putitonaboat,andcrossedtotheotherside,wherewetookasecondcarfor

aboutanotherhour.Itmayseemlikealotofhassle,butthefourhoursbycarsavedusfromabout15

hoursontheriver.WherethecarstoppedatthelittletownofBocaColorado,wetreatedafewfolksand

metanationalmissionarywhohadcometopickusupinhisboat.Weleftourbagswiththeboatkeeper

bytheriver,spentthenightthere,andthentookoffin

themorningforajunglelodgecalledTamboBlanquio.Theyhavebeenkindtoletusstaythereforfreeona

fewoccasions,andit'sverynice.Wetreatedtheirten

employees,showedagospelfilm,andIgaveashort

message.

Inthemorningwewereabletoclimbagigantictreeforatremendousviewofthesurroundingjungleand

thenheadedfurtherupstreamforatribalvillagecalledPuertoAzul.There,wewereabletoseeabout30

peopleandgaveouttractsandmedicinetonearly

everyone.Again,weshowedagospelfilmandgavea

shortmessageattheend.

Risingat5a.m.onceagain,weshovedoffwhilethe

riverwasstillmistyandthevisibilitywaslow.Intheafternoonwearrivedatthenationalmissionaries'

homewherewesawafewnativeswhohadjustcomeoutofthepark.Oneoftheladieswasfromthe

deep,deepinteriorandspokepracticallynoSpanish.Shecameformedicalattentionforherinfant,but

shemostlikelywasoneofthe"uncontactedpeople"justafewyears

ago.Wewereabletorenewsomerelationshipsthereinthesmall

townandvisitseveralnativehomesnearbywhereweinvitedthem

tocomefortheservicethatevening.Weshowedagospelfilmusing

theprojectorandspeakers,andIonceagaingavethemachallenge,

askingthemiftheyhadeveracceptedJesusChristasLord.

Thefollowingmorningweleftagaintogofurtheruprivertoa

largenativecommunitycalledDiamante.Therewetreatedover80peopleduringthetwodayswespentthere,andagainweshowed

thefilmandspokeaboutourLordandSavior.Wewereabletogive

outtractstonearlyeveryonewhocametotheclinicortothe

eveningservice.Thisupperpartoftheriverwasmuchclearerwater

andsomewhatcolder,asitcomesrightoutofthemountains.Originallywehadplannedtogofurtherupriver,butwewere

nearlyoutofmedicine,theriverwasshallow,fast,anddangerous,

andourdoctorwassomewhatsick,soweturneddownstreamfor

thetriphome.Thankfullythatpartwasmostlyuneventfulexceptfor

thesunburnsthatweallgot.

PraisetheLordthatwewereabletoholdmedicalclinicsatfourorfivedifferentplaces,andwesawandtreatedover100peopleduringtheweek.Wegotbitupquiteabit,butwebelievethatGodisat

workintheheartsofmanypeoplewesawandthattheywillrespondtothetruththattheyhaveheardThiswasjustthebeginningofthemedicalcampaigns.Wewereabletohelppeopleinaboutahalf

dozenotherlocationsaswell,alwaystryingtogivetheGoodNewsalongwiththemedicalattention.

Additionally,itwasagreatblessingandencouragementtohaveNateandAmyhereandtoseetheirservant’sheart.Theyevenhelpedwiththelong-delayedarrivalofourcontainerandboat.TheCopelands

areplanningonmedicalmissions,andwewouldbethrilledtoseeGodbringmorelaborerstoPerutoworkalongsideus!

Assoonasourguestsdeparted,sodidwe!Wewentto

Cuscotobeinvolvedinayouthcongressandtobuy

materialsforthebuilding.

Ourhouseconstructioncontinuesslowlybutsurely.It

seemsthatthereisalwayseitheralackoffunds,workers,

time,ormaterials.WeareprayingthatGodwill

continuetoprovideforthisbaseforjungleministry.

Ourplanistousethefirstfloorforministry:kids’clubs,guestroom,Biblestudies,tribalhospitality,andperhaps

somedayaBibleinstitute.
