Instructions for UseSetting: Small Group

Objective: Supports Common Core Standard CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.B.4a When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.

Materials:

Cardstock, laminating film, metal washers, wooden dowels, string OR gimp, hot glue gun OR E6000 glue, button magnets, scissors, bingo daubers OR crayons

Directions:

Print the fish on pages 6-7 on white cardstock or the fish on pages 8-9 on colored cardstock of your choice. You may wish to print multiple sets of fish for larger groups. Next, cut out each fish and glue a thin metal washer on the back. I found the washers for .77 cents at Wal-Mart. Laminate the fish and cut out. Then, tie a length of string or gimp to the end of each dowel to create a fishing pole. You will need one fishing pole per child in your small group. Use the adhesive of your choice to attach a button magnet to the end of each fishing line. Place the fish in a basket or bowl in the middle of the group and give each child a fishing pole. Give each student in your small group a copy of the recording sheet on page 4. Students will catch fish and record their catches on their recording sheet by marking the corresponding number with a bingo dauber or coloring in the fish. After they have caught a fish they can return it to the bowl or basket.

I also included a recording sheet with blank fish if you prefer to have students write in the numbers of the fish they caught.
