Fisheries anti Aquatic Sciences

These reports contain scientific and technical information that represents an important contribution to existing knowledge but which for some reason may not be appropriate for primary scientific (i.e . Journal) publication. Technical Reports are directed primarily towards a worldwide audience and have an international distribution. No restriction is placed on subject matter and the series reflects the,'?J:Qad '\ . interests and policies of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, namely, fisn~ iies· management, technology and development, ocean sciences, and aquatic environments relevant to Canada.

Technical Reports may be cited as full publications . The correct citation appears above the abstract of each report. Each report will be abstracted in Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts and will be inde xed annually in the Department's ilridex to scientific and technical publications.

Numbers 1-456 in this series were issued as Technical Reports of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada. Numbers 457-714 were issued as Department of the Environment, Fisheries and Marine Service, Research and Development Directorate Technical Reports. Numbers 715-924 were issued as Department of Fisheries and the Environment , Fisheries and Marine Service Technical Reports. The current series name was changed with report number 925. .

Details on the availability of Technical Reports in hard copy may ~d-obl~ined V from the issuing establishment indicated on the front cover.

ABSTRACT

Mackenzie, B.J. 1983. Bibliography of trace metals in marine and estua-rine ecosystems, 1977 to 1981. Can. Tech. Rep. Fish. Aquat. Sci. 1146: iv + 20 p.

This report is an update to the 1982 technical report by Fallis et a1. (Can. Tech. Rep. Fish. Aquat. Sci. 1087) and is a listing of references containing information on heavy metals in marine and estuarine environments. The references are listed alphabetically by author and a subject index provides access by major components of the environment. The material included was published primarily during the period 1977-1981.

Key words: bibliographies; marine environment; brackishwater environment; heavy metal s.

INTRODUCTION

This bibliography has been compiled as an update to "Bibliography of trace metals (As, Cd, Hg, Pb, Zn) in marine ecosystems with emphasis on Arctic regions, 1970 to 1980" (Fallis et al. 1982), and includes references not available when the first bibliography was compiled. The references were primarily obtained from a search of a computer abstract file (QL, ASFA) and Marine Pollution Research Titles, and is current as of April 1982. Journal abbreviations follow Serial Sources for the BIOSIS Data Base (Volume 1981). Transliteration of Russian and other non-English characters follows the practice used in the ASFA data base.

The titles are listed in alphabetical order by author and a selected subject index has been included to facilitate access to references of special interest. These subjects are : water, sediments, algae, macroalgae (seaweeds) and phytoplankton, vascular plants, marine invertebrates (excluding molluscs) and zooplankton, molluscs, fishes, and mammals. Material may be cited under more than one sect ion dependi ng upon the scope of the work. Reference citation does not indicate availability from the author or the Freshwater Institute Library.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Thanks are due to K.E. Marshall for conducting the computer search, S. Ahlgren for typing the manuscript and B.W. Fallis for his advice and assistance.
