Bruce W. Fischer Teacher and Coach (Cross Country and Track) McFarland High School McFarland, Wisconsin I began teaching history at McFarland High School in 1976. I primarily teach freshman U.S. History and sophomore World History, but every other year I teach a class that is one of my passions -- Russian History -- to juniors and seniors. In 1983-84, I participated in a Fulbright exchange to Scotland, teaching at Knox Academy in Haddington, outside of Edinburgh. I also was a competitive runner, competing in two U.S. Olympic Trials and on four National Teams. In 1974, I competed on the U.S. National Team vs. the Soviet National Team, in Moscow. I currently coach Cross Country and Track at McFarland High School and was inducted into the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006. I also was awarded the DAR John Bell Chapter Outstanding History Teacher in Dane County in 1986 and 2005, and in 2005 I was also awarded the DAR American History Teacher of the Year for the State of Wisconsin.
