Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains

Welcome LetterLutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) is pleased to share financial and service accomplishments that you helped make possible in FY2018 (ending June 30). Your partnership in this ministry is a blessing to all who turn to us for help and hope and we are grateful for your ongoing trust and support.

FY2018 was another eventful year for LFSRM! We celebrated our 70th anniversary with 70 church presentations and featured this significant milestone in all of our special events! We advanced the STEP transitional program for aging-out foster youth; we served our first six un-befriended older adults through contracts with hospitals for Guardianship Services; we expanded our employment services and workforce development programs to serve refugees, immigrants, youth and other economically marginalized populations; and we nearly completed our 3-year, $1.5 million, “Walking Together–Building Community” campaign. This was LFSRM’s first major fundraising campaign in more than 20 years, and we were very fortunate to surpass the goal in November 2018, one year early!

However, in FY2018 LFSRM continued to feel the effect of the continuing disruption of the national refugee resettlement program during a somewhat chaotic period of shifting national policy regarding the practice of welcoming the stranger through a lawful and orderly resettlement process. It required LFSRM to lay off 35% of our refugee workforce, including many former refugees. It also required restructuring our total agency in the last six months of the fiscal year and administering salary and benefit reductions, furlough days and layoffs across every program and department to avoid unmanageable operating losses. We are so proud of our entire workforce for shouldering the burden together and remaining hopeful while we continue to roll out innovative new programs to address the most compelling needs in our communities.

Volunteers

In-kind Contributions

Volunteers serve Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) by providing one-on-one visitation for older adults, mentoring and coaching foster children, performing administrative duties in the offices, serving on fund raising committees, acting as speakers and by co-sponsoring, mentoring and supporting refugee families. They also organize, manage and participate in hands-on projects like the backpack and school supply drive, Angel tree gifts, and Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets.
