Dear Friends of Mercy,
When the Catholic Year of Mercy launched in December 2015, Pope Francis invited all of us to spend the year with our hearts open to love, kindness and unbounded generosity, saying “Ah, Mercy. This is the name of God.”
Thank you for believing in Mercy this year and every year. Mercy provides the highest level of care possible to our patients, but we don’t do it alone. Your generosity has helped us make wide-ranging advances in the way we deliver care.
• The Coletta Building, our new breast health and cancer center, opened in June 2016 and is trailblazing a new model for cancer detection and treatment.
• Our innovative nurse learning center prepares new RNs with an extra measure of hands-on experience so they can better serve our patients.
• The upgraded mammography equipment at Mercy I-35 gives more patients access to state-of-the-art, and potentially lifesaving, 3D mammography.
Through your support of Mercy’s mission to bring the healing ministry of Jesus to Oklahoma City, Mercy has provided thousands of patients with prescription medication and countless more patients with meal vouchers, transportation and other critical charity care services.
Because of valued supporters like you, the doors at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City are open to the sick, to the injured and to all those who need physical or spiritual healing in our community. Thank you. Thank you for investing in the health of your friends and neighbors.
Sincerely,
A Special Thanks to Our FY16 Generous Supporters

On June 22, 2016, Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City opened the Coletta Building, the first cancer and breast services treatment facility in Oklahoma City to be designed with the guidance of patients and their families. Architects took into consideration the input of hundreds of cancer survivors and those currently receiving cancer treatment.
“For the large part, patients often feel that cancer facilities are mazes they have to find their way through when they feel their absolute worst,” said Jim Gebhart, president of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City. “It can add a great deal of unnecessary anxiety to an already stressful situation. If there is any time in someone’s life when they need the process to be simple, the people to be compassionate

The 86,000-square foot space cost $80 million to complete and contains $9.8 million of new state-of-the-art equipment including a $3.5 million linear accelerator for targeted radiation.

In Memory of Abby Wintermute
Some caregivers provide such transformative patient experiences that their impact and compassion is never forgotten. Abby Wintermute was one of those caregivers. After three decades of service at Mercy, Abby passed away in June 2014. In memory of such a special person, her family

and friends made a $50,000 gift to the Coletta Building, Mercy’s new breast health and cancer center. Several of Abby’s family members attended a pre-opening event at the Coletta Building on June 14, where they saw the plaque that hangs in her memory next to the building’s café. It is a touching tribute to an exceptional nurse who healed and comforted hundreds of Mercy patients.

Nurses are truly the lifeblood of Mercy’s mission to bring compassionate care and exceptional service to every bedside. But retaining talented nurses is one of health care’s biggest challenges. Mercy’s solution was to launch the new Nurse Learning Center. Offering nurses continuing education and a broad base of hands-on experiences to further their careers, the Nurse Learning Center is both a reward and an opportunity for the nurses who selflessly serve our patients.
Thanks to your generosity, Mercy Health Foundation was able to provide $85,000 to further equip and expand the program in 2016. The Nurse Learning Center now features computers, state-
of-the-art training equipment and everything instructors might need to make sure nurses have the knowledge to expertly do their jobs and enhance the patient experience. In 2016, the Center counted 83 new nursing school graduates and 12 experienced RN/LPNs as grads of the program.
“Sometimes new and even experienced nurses need extra support to feel confident and fulfilled in their important roles. I’m really proud of what we’re accomplishing through the learning center. Mercy is producing extremely well-prepared nurses as a result of this innovative program,” said Chief Nursing Officer Karyl James.
