Paying homage...

Adv. P.V. Mathew (1953 - 2017)Founder Chairman, FISAT

It is really a matter of pride that the Department of Mechanical Engineering is bringing out their annual newsletter, ‘PRAGYAAN 2018’. In fact any publication at the Department level provides ample opportunities to the students to enlist their achievements and laurels thereby encouraging the students community at large to do better in the coming days. I understand that the bygone year has been an year of hectic activities. Several technical talks and lectures by eminent speakers from IITs and IISc. have been conducted. The student chapters of professional organizations like ASME, SAE, and SAME have been very active. A good number of students won various prizes and awards competing in different tech fests conducted across the country. The activities conducted besides the regular class hours have paved the way for getting good exposure to the current trends and developments and thereby enhancing their knowledge and skills. We are really proud of the achievements of our students who were invited to USA to participate in various technical competitions by ASME.

This volume is indeed the outcome of the hard work of many in different forms. I take this opportunity to wholeheartedly congratulate the entire Department and the editorial team in particular for their commendable efforts.

From the Editor’s Desk

‘PRAGYAAN’ (the Sanskrit word meaning Wisdom), the Newsletter of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, recapitulates the activities and achievements of the Department during the past year. The yesteryear marked a series of distinctions in terms of producing excellent results and bringing laurels to the Department by the students winning various national and international level prizes. The Department is committed to become a centre of excellence imparting engineering education and making the young graduates capable of being highly successful and taking up greater challenges in the highly competitive world. The cooperation and contribution of the Department in the recent NAAC Accreditation of the College with 'A' Grade was well appreciated. Now the preparations for the NBA Accreditation is under way. We earnestly expect that the Mechanical Engineering programme will be granted NBA accreditation very soon.

The present issue of Pragyaan endeavours to reflect the exquisite distinctions and quality initiatives in the Department. It provides a platform for self-expression and creativity as well as an occasion to record the achievements and the activities of the Department. Pragyaan is the outcome of the concerted efforts of many. The valuable guidance received from the Chairman, Sri. Paul Mundadan, the Principal, Dr. George Issac, the HoD, Dr. Jose Cherian and the enormous support extended by the Faculty, Staff, Students and all our well wishers helped us releasing this issue in time. Pragyaan 2018 is expected to inform and inspire the diverse readers.

Pass- Out Batches

Those students who pass out from the Department are role models in their respective field of employment, upholding the values and spirits they received from here. The indelible impression and fond memories of their Alma mater linger in their minds forever. A few of their remarks are given below. Faculty and Staff were so nurturing and focused and lead us to become a confident and ambitious professional with more social values and self-respect. With many student chapters of technical societies like ASME, SAE this campus has given me a lot more than just a degree. - Mahesh M.H. 2018 Passout.
