faculty,supportiveparents,andcreative,energeticstudents.Thisyearisanintegralyearfor
MYPYear5studentsastheywillhaveachancetoobtainanofficialIBMYPCertificateorIB
MYPCourseResults.BothoftheseareformalqualificationsofferedbytheInternational
Baccalaureate®Organization.Inordertoobtaineitherofthesequalifications,Year5students
needtocompleteasetofMYPeAssessmentstrategies,whichincludeon-screenexternal
examinations,ePortfolios,andthepersonalproject.
MYPeAssessmentsprovidestudentswithexternal,internationalrecognitionoftheir
achievement.On-screenexternalexaminationsaresenttoschoolsbytheIBO,andonce
studentscompletetheseexaminations,theywillbesentbacktotheIBOandmarkedbyexternal
examiners.AsforePortfoliosandthepersonalproject,althoughtheseeAssessmentswillbe
markedbyFISstaffmembers,theyarethensenttotheIBOformoderation(i.e.external
examinerswillgooverhowFISstaffmembersmarkedtheseassessmentstoensuretheyhave
beenmarkedrigorously).Thisprocessprovidesaguaranteetoteachers,students,andparents
thatresultsachievedinMYPsubjectshavebeenconfirmedbyaprocessofexternalvalidation
accordingtointernationalstandards.
ThisguidecontainsinformationonthetypeofeAssessmentsandhowYear5studentscan
obtainanIBMYPCertificateorIBMYPCourseResults.OurMYPCoordinator,Mrs.Salwa
Ghandour,willguideteachers,students,andparentsthroughoutthisacademicyearconcerning
anyinquiresorissuespertainingtotheMYPeAssessments.

Certificate:
• Fiveexternalon-screenexaminations(language&literature,mathematics,science,
individualsandsocieties,andinterdisciplinarylearning)
• OneePortfoliofromacourseofstudyinlanguageacquisition(i.e.French)
• OneePortfoliofromacourseinphysicalandhealtheducationordesign

• Meetingourschool’sexpectationsforcommunityservice
IBMYPCourseResults
AsforIBMYPCourseResults,thisqualificationappliestostudentswhoregisterforsomeofthe
on-screenexaminationsand/orePortfolioeAssessments.Studentsregisteringforthis
qualificationneedtoalsocompletethepersonalprojectandourschools’expectationsfor
communityservice.
CommunityServiceRequirements
StudentsatFISshouldcompleteacommunityserviceprojectinordertofulfillourschool’s
communityservicerequirements.EachsectionwillworkonaServiceasActionprojectunder
thesupervisionofoneoftheirteachersthroughouttheacademicyear.Studentsineachsection
willthencreateadigital,visualpresentation(i.e.PowerPoint,Keynote,etc.)thatdisplaystheir
communityserviceproject.Thepresentationwillcontainadetaileddescription/purposeof
theirproject,picturesoftheirwork,anynecessarydatacollection,andameaningfulreflection
oftheirendresult.

Deadlines&FeesObtaininganIBMYPCertificateorCourseResultsarebothoptionalrequirements.However,
thepersonalprojectismandatoryforallYear5students.OurMYPCoordinatorwillbein
chargeofregisteringstudentsforoptionaleAssessmentsandthemandatorypersonalproject.
AllYear5studentsmustregisterforon-screenexaminations,ePortfolios,andthepersonal
projectbyOctober18,2018.Ifstudentsmissthisdeadlinedate,theymaystillregisterbythe
datesmentionedbelow,buttheregistrationfeeswillbeconsiderablyhigherafterOct.18.

On-ScreenExaminations
On-screenexaminationsareexternalexaminations(twohoursinduration)thatwillbe
takenfordisciplinesinlanguage&literature,mathematics,sciences,individualsandsocieties,
andinterdisciplinarylearning.Theseexaminationsareoptionalandwillbeconductedat
schoolinthecomputerlab.Year5studentswhochoosetocompleteon-screenexaminations
thisyearwillberegisteredforthefollowing:

Candidatestudentswillhaveaccesstointerdisciplinarypre-releasematerialinorderto
familiarizewithusingtheexaminationsoftware.Thefollowinglinkcontainstwovideosthat

Candidatestudentswillbeginpreparingforon-screenexamsinDecember2019by
practicingpaston-screenexamsinourschool’scomputerlabs.Theywillalsobegivenacopyof
thesoftwareinordertopracticethemathome.Allpracticesessionswilltakeplacefrom2:15–
3:00pm,wherebyascheduleofthesesessionswillbeissuedinNovember.
ePortfolios
AnePortfolioisthefinalproductstudentswillsubmitforthesubjectgroupsinlanguage
acquisition,arts,design,andphysicalandhealtheducation.Similarlytoexternalon-screen
examinations,ePortfoliosarealsooptional.Year5studentsatFISinterestedinobtaininganIB
MYPCertificateorCourseResultsneedtocompleteoneePortfolioinlanguageacquisition
(French),andoneePortfolioindesignORphysicalandhealtheducation.Alistofsummative
assessmenttasksforeachsubjectgroupismentionedonthenextpageinTable4.
TheIBwillreleasepartiallycompletedunitplannersforthesesubjectgroupsonthefirstof
November.Theseplannerswillcontainaglobalcontextandexploration,keyconcept,related
concept(s),statementofinquiry,inquiryquestions,andsummativeassessmenttask(s).MYP
teacherswillcompletetheseplannersbyaddinglearningexperiencesthatwillenablestudents
toachievetherequiredsummativeassessmenttasks.
StudentswillthencompletetheseunitsfromDecember2019throughMarch2020,which
willresultinthesummativeassessmenttasks.Thesesummativeassessmenttaskswillbe
representedasePortfolios,whichwillbeintheformofatextfile,audiofile,videofile,and/or
imagefile.Studentswillreceiveclearinstructionslateronthisyearonthelength/durationof
eachsummativeassessmenttask.Year5studentsarenotallowedtoconductthesesummative
assessmenttasksathome,butratherundertheirteachers’supervisioninschool.Afterstudents
submittheirePortfolios,MYPteacherswillmarktheirwork,andsendtheirePortfoliostothe
IBOforfurthermoderation.
Concerninglanguageacquisition,studentsinterestedinsubmittingePortfolioswillbe
registeredas“emergent”candidatesoftheFrenchlanguage.SubmittingaFrenchePortfolioisa
mandatoryrequirementforregisteringasanMYPCertificatecandidate.IfFISFrenchteachers
andtheFrenchcoordinatorhaveconcernsaboutastudent’sacademiclevelinFrench,the
studentwillnotberegisteredasafullMYPCertificatecandidate.

PersonalProject
Thepersonalprojectisanindependent,student-centeredandage-appropriateextended
projectinwhichYear5studentsconsolidatetheirlearningthroughouttheMYPprogramme.It
shouldrevolvearoundachallengethatmotivatesandinterestsastudent.Unlikeon-screen
examinationsandePortfolios,personalprojectsaremandatoryforallYear5students.
StudentsarerequiredtosubmittheirpersonalprojectsreportsbyMarch8,2020,intheformof
written,oral,visual,ormultimediaform.
ThePersonalProjectCoordinator,Mrs.RazanAl-Khatib,willmeetwithallYear5students
bytheendofSeptembertoassignasupervisor(i.e.MYPteachers)toeachstudent.Mrs.Al-
Khatibandsupervisorswillbothprovidestudentswithaclearsetofguidelinesanddeadlines
onhowtocompletetheirpersonalproject.

GradingeAssessments
Asmentionedearlier,studentsneedtocompleteatotalofeighteAssessments(five
externalexaminations,twoePortfolios,andonepersonalproject)inordertoacquireanIBMYP
Certificate.Studentscanachieveamaximumgradeof7ineacheAssessment,whichall
culminatetoatotalscoreof56.
Studentsmustachieveatleast28pointsfromacrossalleighteAssessments
(andatleastaGrade3ineachofthem),andfulfillourschool’sexpectationsof
communityserviceinordertoreceiveanIBMYPCertificate.
