January Sermon Series: Living like Christ in a Love Starved World “By God’s design, the church is his instrument of love. Just when the church seems to be marginalized more than ever, just as Christianity seems to be outdated and irrelevant, and just when it seems that this culture will utterly reject the teachings of Christ; the church is actually positioned perfectly to express LOVE! (Mike Baker, Ridiculous) The church was established by love (God so loved the world), in love (Jesus loved us enough to die for us), and for love (It is the love of His fol-lowers that defines it). January 4th through February 1st we will be learn-ing about how to live like Christ in a love starved world. Here’s what we will learn:

We Love because He first Love Us (Jan. 4th)

Let Us Love One Another (Jan. 11th)

By this all people will know that you are my Disciples (Jan.18th)

Do not Love the World or the Things of the World (Jan. 25th)

Greater Love has no one than this, that someone lay down their lives (Feb. 1st)

New Year’s Eve Communion Service Wednesday night, December 31st 7:00pm in the Sanctuary We talk of “New Year’s resolutions,” but as Christian’s we are people of revelation not resolution. We don’t want to simply “resolve” to do some-thing; instead, we need a revelation (revealing or disclosing) of God’s will and truth in our lives. Come join us for a time of reflection and commun-ion as we come into the year of 2015.

STARTING POINT! What’s Starting Point? It’s a three week class about our church and what it believes. We will be meeting on Sunday mornings at 9:45am in the Family Life Center (gym) on Jan-uary 18, 25, & February 1.

This class will be an informal time to get to know others at Eaton First Church of God, and learn about our faith in Je-sus Christ. Life presents us with many challenges. Every day we have schedules to meet, difficult people to deal with, and our own anxieties to face. Sometimes, in quitter moments, we experience a fleeting sense of emptiness—a longing for something our words cannot fully describe; we face the mystery of life itself. We wonder, “What is the meaning of life? How should I live? What can I hope for?”

If you are newer to our congregation, please come and join us January 18 – February 1.

Worship Arts

A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard on The First Leon and our Candles and Carols service! From building set pieces to ironing costumes, from hauling down stage extensions to attending tons of rehearsals, each and every one of you played such an im-portant role in helping our congregation and community experience the joy of Christmas this year! On behalf of myself and the rest of the staff, thank you.

Now with another Christmas under our belts, we look forward to spring! Now’s a great time to jump into one of our worship arts minis-tries. CHOIR – We will be taking a few weeks off after a busy Christmas season and will be starting back on Wednesday nights on January 14. We will be learning some pieces for the spring and for Easter. If you love to sing, join us at 7:00 in the sanctuary on Wednesdays! WORSHIP BAND – If you play piano, guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard, this is the ministry for you! We are always looking for new musi-cians to join our worship band rotation. Even if you don’t have much experience, talk to Liisa about getting plugged in. ORCHESTRA – If you have two years of experience on a brass, woodwind, or stringed instrument, we’d love to have you join our “Celebration Ensemble” which plays once a month with our worship band. This is a great opportunity for both students and adults who have been looking for a low-pressure atmosphere to break out their old instrument or stay in practice. Contact Liisa for a schedule. TECH TEAM – If you love working behind-the-scenes, have good attention to detail, and have an interest in technology, the tech team is a great way to get plugged into the worship at E1COG. We are always looking to build our team of volunteers to run our sound board and our multimedia projection. No experience is necessary, we can train you! If you are interested in any of these ministry opportunities, or any other creative arts (drama, dance, visual art), contact Liisa ([email protected]). We’d love to have you join our team!
