Team Exuma Mission Trip, June 25-July 2

The Exumas are an archipelago of 365 cays and islands that help form the Bahamas. Some of the cays and islands are privately owned but most of them are uninhabited. The Exumas are consid-ered the “Out Islands” of the Bahamas. They be-gin just 35 miles southeast of Nassau and stretch for approximately 130 miles. The capital and largest city in the district is George Town which has a population of around 1,000.

Exuma was settled after the American Revolutionary War when many Loyalists and their slaves migrated to the island, setting up cotton plantations which flourished for a brief time.

Christianity is the dominant religion in the Bahamas. However, there are several other religious denominations in the Bahamas and quite a few Bahamians are even athiests. It is estimated that 32% are Baptist, 20% are Anglican, 19% are Roman Catholic, 6% are Methodist, 6% are Church of God, 12% are other Protestant, 3% are none or unknown and 2% are other. Since 1976, over 60% of the children born in the Bahamas, were born to mothers out of wedlock.

On June 25th, we will be taking our first team to the Exumas. While we are there, we will be working with Pastor Cedric Smith of Mt. Sinai Union Baptist Church. We will be conducting Vacation Bible Schools during the mornings, teaching evangelism in the evening and holding two evangelistic meetings.

Please be praying for the team consisting of Kelsey Bailey, David and Sue Cobb, Chris and Kellye Kirby, Mark Martin, Dawn Perkins, Kristie Russell and Tammy Watson.

Would you like to be happy?

It is inconceivable anyone would say no to that. Eudemonic is the study of happiness. Albert Schweitzer, a brilliant man with four PhD’s, defined for us how to be happy:

“The only ones among us who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.”

He found his happiness in going to a remote region of Africa to serve as a missionary. That is not the first place most people would look to try to find happiness. It was God’s place for him.

You don’t have to go to Africa to be happy. You can find it wherever you are. It is in what you do, not where you are. This church has the potential of being a happiness factory. It offers numerous opportunities of service. Find how the Lord wants you to serve Him through the church and JUST DO IT. Happiness is not a goal to be sought or an item to be bought. It is the beautiful by-product of a job well done.

What is the job our Lord wants you to perform in the church? Talk with a staff member who will be pleased to help you find and define your road to happiness. Here is a vital component in the search for happiness: God is more concerned about your holiness than your happiness. You will never find happiness, no matter what you do, unless you develop the trait

Price Tags...of holiness. The word holiness to some seems to be an elusive goal; it is almost scary. Basically, it is finding God’s will and doing it with a Christ-like spirit. It is aligning your character, concepts, conversations, and conduct with that of Christ’s.

Let’s pray and serve so that when the new pastor comes he will find a spirit-filled membership comprised of people of all ages who have servant temperaments. He then can stand before this beloved congregation and say, “CHARGE.” There is much to be done to claim the valley for Jesus.

Pray with me that our loving Lord will express His perfect will in sending His man to minister among you. He will be blessed and be a blessing. Show him and his family the love you have shown Trudy and me and he will be inspired to serve energetically with you. Thanks for your love shared with us.

In Christ, Nelson Price

Vacation Bible School!! The very name brings wonderful memories to mind. Memories of Kool-Aid, peanut butter and crackers, crafts made of macaroni, saying pledges, and hearing Bible stories. Well, VBS has changed over the years, but we still have snacks, make crafts and, most importantly, we learn about Jesus!! Oh, and we have really cool t-shirts. Needless to say, we love VBS and we are blessed to be a part of a church that supports it whole-heartedly. There is nothing like seeing the look on a child’s face as he or she sees the decorated Worship Center for the first time or watching them learn the motions to the VBS songs. Most importantly, there is a great joy when even one child makes that all-important decision to ask Jesus into his or her heart.

This year’s theme is: Big Apple Adventure. It takes place in New York City, the same place as the first Bible School in 1898! However, as with any theme, it’s about the people who need the Lord. People in our own

workers sharing the Word of God with children, Sunday school classes’ fellowshipping and studying the word of God under the direction of wonderful teachers. And on any given Sunday, you can find young men and women who grew up at First Baptist serving the Lord in ministry throughout the world. On any given Sunday, you will find that First Baptist Church of Sevierville is a very special place! First Baptist will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are blessed to be counted among those from this church that are serving the Lord in ministry throughout the world. We want Sundays to be special at Bethel, in that we would reflect our namesake, and people would exclaim “Surely the Lord is in this place!” (Genesis 28:16).

Dr. Price has taught us that “the church is built between Sundays.” Any given Sunday is special at First Baptist, but through the week,

communities need to know how to connect faith with life. We hope you will join us as we learn these things together the week of June 20-24 from 9:00 am until 12:15 pm.

Yes, VBS plays a vital part in the life of our church. It has been known for years as one of the greatest evangelistic tools in Southern Baptist Churches. What about your children or grandchildren? Are they registered for VBS? You can register now online or you can pick up a registration in your child’s Sunday School room or at the Welcome Center starting June 5th. We hope you will join us for the Big Apple Adventure, June 20-24!

Would you like to volunteer? We have a need for a few more adult workers. You may sign up at the Welcome Center or contact Laura or Marty.

“So faith comes from what is heard and what is heard comes through the message about Jesus Christ.” ~Romans 10:17

it has been amazing to see God work. Through the week, young people are hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the needs of people are being met, ministers are learning and fellowshipping together, the ladies in the office are serving with excellence, mission work is being planned and accomplished, and God is being glorified. Serving at First Baptist has taught me the importance of praying, preparing, and serving throughout the week. The Acts 1:8 culture that First Baptist has sought to develop is what I hope to see begin to grow at Bethel, as we seek to impact our community, state, nation, and world for Jesus.

Thank you for the love and encouragement you have shown us as we continue our journey in ministry. Please keep us in your prayers. We love you and will be praying for God to continue to work in mighty ways at FBC.

To the FBC FamilyChristopher Kirby

The first Bible verse I ever memorized was Psalm 122:1, “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord.” I have been glad to serve at First Baptist and to worship with the sweet people that make up the First Family. Let me share with you what has blessed me the past two years as we have been part of the First Family. I also want to share what I am praying for at Bethel, and ask you to join me in prayer.

On any given Sunday, you can find the church staff praying for God to move, interns sharing the gospel at the Juvenile Center, deacons and lay leaders ministering at nursing homes, ushers driving golf carts and welcoming people with a hand shake and a smile, youth preaching their hearts out at Riverbend Campground, faithful
