Your Christmas Store Needs Your SupportJerry “Bear” HyderAssociate Pastor of Adults

This will be our 25th year for this annual local outreach event. It started with helping a few families with food boxes and some toys. This year we will be helping close to 460 families (that is over 2,000 people) on Saturday, December 11. It takes over 400 church volunteers to make it happen. There is something for everybody to do to help.

(1) Praying for the store workers and those who are helping. Last year we had 15 to pray and receive Christ as their Savior.

(2) Participating - There is something for everyone whether it’s gift wrapping, loading, being a host or prayer encourager or even giving donations.

Please consider joining us for this wonderful opportunity to share with others the Reason for the Season...

Host/Hostess Orientation Meeting Wednesday, December 8th; 6:30pm/Parlor

Friday, December 10th; 8:00am/FLC Volunteers are needed for set up: tables for food baskets, filling of the food baskets, toy arranging, recipient wait-ing area, and much more...

Saturday, December 11th; 7:30am-3:00pm (snacks/lunch provided)/FLC Volunteers needed all day. Come at your convience! 7:30am - Prayer time and preperation time 8:00am - Christmas Store begins Even if you can only help for part of the day please don’t miss out on this incredible blessing!

The Christian community is entering the season when more holidays than at any other focus emphasis on faith. Thanksgiving ushers in the Queen Mother of holidays, Christmas, which is followed by the sentimental season of New Year.

This blessed church offers many special events which not only give the membership occasion to celebrate but which can be used as “entry points” for visitors. Give persons an opportunity to share in this festive season by inviting them to these events. Many people will come to such special events that would never come to a conventional worship service. BUT, if favorably influenced, they will come back for such.

If you are praying for the Pastor Search team, you are engaged in determining who will be the new pastor. This is a strategic decision that will likely color the ministry of the church for a decade or more. Daily entreat the Lord to send His minister for this time in the life of the church.

In praying, continue to implore the Lord to use all that is at His disposal in this church to His glory. Ask Him to guide, guard, and govern in all that is done. Each of these three factors is needed. Consider, if you were the strongest most engaged member of the church, how strong would the church be?

Information on the trip is available on my web site (nelsonprice.com) or a brochure can be obtained at the church office. Reservations are limited so don’t delay.

Persons have asked what the difference is in the “Authorized King James” and the “King James” versions. The Authorized Version as such was “authorized” by Act of Parliament. In America, the Authorized Version is known as the King James Version. The earliest appearance in print of the phrase “Authorized Version”, to mean this particular version of the Bible, was published in 1824. The phrase King James Version first appeared in print in 1884. The two are virtually the same with simply contemporary words changed without changing the meaning but in order to make the meaning more clear for the contemporary reader.

It is a humbling joy to serve with you. Let’s make most of these days for the honor of our loving Lord. Knowing Christ is alive in this body is a blessing.

Dr. Nelson Price Interim Pastor

Tilling the Ground: Lessons from the field in MaltaChris KirbyAssistant Student Minister

When Kellye and I first heard about the TBC partnership with Malta, and our church’s involvement, we could not help but think of Acts 28 and the Apostle Paul’s time among the Maltese. Knowing that Paul had been there placed in us a great desire to go to Malta ourselves. In April, I spoke to Glenn Metts about Malta and he said the partnership with Brazil was picking ripe fruit, but going to Malta was tilling hard ground. Our team went to Malta prepared to till, water, plant and reap in whatever way the Lord had planned. Each of us learned the importance of praying, lov-ing and sharing the gospel, and our eyes were opened to the great needs in Malta.

Our Worship Pastor and Team Leader, Scott Andrews, has been filling the post of Missions Minister for the past several months, and he summarized the key observation we made while in Malta; “We need to be working harder to spread the gospel to the nations. People can be deceived even by religion and end up worshipping a religion and not the Savior.”

Five days later, I went inner tubing at a local golf

course with a friend. My outing resulted in a

shattered vertebra in my neck after I was thrown

from my inner tube and landing on the back of

my neck. My life was suddenly transformed from

a carefree and active twenty-one year old to a

motionless quadriplegic with limited arm move-

ment.

Was I mad at God for what happened? No, it

was my decision to go that day and the accident

actually has brought me closer to Him. While

growing up, I was in church off and on. Mainly,

I was just going “through the motions.” Wasn’t

everyone supposed to go to church? I guess I

viewed church as a Sunday ritual to do for God

and the rest of the week it was all about me. Af-

ter my accident, my view about church changed.

My eyes were opened and now I could see.

Our purpose in life is to bring glory to God. I had

The Maltese people are very devout in their devotion to praying to Mary and to the pa-tron saints of their villages, but they have no understanding of salvation by grace through faith in Christ which is the key tenant of the message of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament.

The people had many questions about the differences between our beliefs and their Roman Catholic beliefs. It seemed that the Protestant Reformation had not reached this island and every witnessing encounter was tough, but we found that it is always worth it to share the gospel, because it is “the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16).

Many seeds were planted, as we shared the love of Christ and the truth of the gospel to hundreds of children and their families through our festivals and in our everyday conversations with the people in Xlendi and Munxar (the villages our church has com-mitted to pray for on the island of Gozo in Malta) and with prayer and continued work of our IMB Missionaries, Earl and Robin

Pinkston, those seeds will be watered and cultivated.

Pictured below are Earl and Robin with their kids. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue God’s work in Malta.

the abilities as an athelete to do that, but I didn’t.

Our purpose as Christians is to live for God at all

times, and I failed to do that too, although techni-

cally I wasn’t saved. My accident taught me that it

means more to do something than it does just say-

ing it. Living for God and being a Christian means

I must pray, read and confess my sins daily among

other things. I should be in fellowship with other

believers and God deserves ten percent and more

of my blessings, i.e. finance, time, etc.

Since my accident, I have truly accepted Christ

(2/7/1996) and don’t just “go through the mo-

tions.” Not I, but those around me are important.

I received a bachelor’s degree in social work and

a master’s in rehabilitation counseling from UT.

Through God’s words, I’ve learned to trust in Him

(Proverbs 3:5-6), believe in myself (Philippians 4:13)

and know that no matter what I’m faced with, I’ll

never be alone (Deutronomy 31:6).

I was once blind...Jason Seaton

At the age of twenty-one and serving in the Army,

it can be easy for a person to believe that he or she

is invisible. This was the state I found myself during

my late teens and early twenties. I was a star athe-

lete in football and baseball having played both for

awhile, including one year at UT as a wide receiver.

I was also blessed with the ability to excel in other

sports as well. It’s a shame that I didn’t realize at

the time the abilities that I had and the opportuni-

ties that were presented to me were to be used for

God’s glory. I have to admit it can be easy to focus

on myself with the fame that comes with being an

athelete. It wasn’t until a cold February afternoon

that my view of myself and my life changed.

After arriving home from a six month tour in Egypt

with the Army, I was greeted by a foot of snow.
