Word With Pastor Wade
Dear Church Family, As July is starting, we are officially halfway through 2021. It has been a year of ups and downs for many, with hopefully the ups outweighing the downs. I want to encourage each of us to be aware of God's presence in our lives each and every day. We see God in nature, the sunrises and sunsets the Lord paints showing us the beauty with which the world was created. We see God in children, in their youthful spirit and faith. We see God in the
hard times as we cling to hope, finding encouragement being poured in from our Chris-tian brothers and sisters. We see God as we read our Bibles, inspiring both the authors who wrote it and we who read it to love God and love others. Faith, Hope, and Love. May we then find comfort in these three, as the Bible says: "Three things will last for-ever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love" (1 Cor. 13:13). Since faith, hope, and love last forever, we should cling to them and grow in them through it all. Here is how I have seen faith, hope, and love so far in 2021, and ways we can en-gage them over the next couple of months: Faith: During a year when many other churches are falling in attendance and membership, I have seen the faith of our Church Family in the 125 average worship at-tendance we have had in 2021. Membership holds steady as well at 329. I have also seen the faith of FUMC in the giving, being faithful to support the missions and minis-tries of the church in Bay City and beyond. Our faith opportunity upcoming is the Church Family Reunion on August 15th. The Reunion had four focuses: discipleship, worship, mission, and fellowship. The Good News and Friendship Sunday School classes will be restarting on this day giving an opportunity for discipleship. In the 10 am service, we will worship the Lord together with special music from the Bell and Chancel Choirs along with the blessing of the backpacks and giving out Bibles to those in 3rd-5th grades. After service, there will be a time for mission in the youth building with a drop-off for school supplies, signups for various missions and ministries such as food pantry, cross-training, and youth, and making bag tags for the MEHOP Back-pack giveaway. Last, we will have fellowship together through the first fellowship lunch since March 2020 with the church providing fried chicken and drinks while asking yall to bring a dessert and/or a side dish to share. The courtyard will be filled with activities such as washers, a bounce house, and a photo booth. It will be a great day all the way around. Continued on page 3

Word With Pastor Wade
Hope: I have seen hope on the faces of the children in Sunshine and Rainbow chapel time, and those who go to Children's Church. As these children learn about God, they come to have hope that is tangible. The lessons may be simple, but the impact is pro-found. I have also seen hope in those who have gone to one of the three Bible studies that have been ongoing throughout much of 2021. The Monday study has gone deep into the word through several studies about the Old Testament, prayer, and the Holy Spirit with each study speaking about hope in several ways. The two Tuesday studies have gained hope through the studying of scripture, prayer, and the conversations had during and after the study. The hope opportunity that is upcoming is VBS. VBS this year will be August 1st-5th. Last year we had a virtual VBS that blessed many, but we hoped for VBS being in person this year and now it is about to happen. Look for how to signup your child or grandchild in an email and later in the newsletter. It will be a time that these children will hear about the armor of God as they learn to trust in the Lord through the lessons. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help with VBS, we still would love more help so contact Susan Parish or Lynsey Curtner to volunteer.
Love: I have seen love handed out twice a month at the food pantry voucher giveaway since June 2020, but this year it seems like it has been even more loving. The $25 voucher has now turned to $35 to give the clients, even more, help with food at HEB. It is also through the voucher that we are handing them, love, that we love them and that God loves them. The love opportunity that is upcoming is UM Army. 15 youth and adults are joining with 100 other youth and adults in Bryan, TX on July 11th-17th to hand out the love of God through various building projects. Last year we were able to do a local day-long building project with UM Army not being available because of the pandemic. This year the crew is excited to be doing week-long projects for the clients in the Bryan-College Station area. I have seen the love and support of our Church Family in the supplies asked for being signed up in less than a day. Thank you to all who signed up to help the group in these and other ways, and be aware that we will have a special send-off for the group on July 11 at our 10 am service.
I know also that we have had, and will have, ways that faith, hope, and love are present in our lives. The opportunities are endless to cling to and grow in faith, hope, and love. May we seek to do so not only throughout July, this summer, and 2021 but throughout the rest of our lives. Grace and Peace, Pastor Wade

Independence Day Prayer
Almighty God, you rule all the peoples of the earth.
Inspire the minds of all women and men to whom you have committed
the responsibility of government and leadership
in the nations of the world.
Give to them the vision of truth and justice,
that by their counsel all nations and peoples may work together.
Give to the people of our country
zeal for justice and strength of forbearance,
that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will.
Forgive our shortcomings as a nation;
purify our hearts to see and love the truth.
We pray all these things through Jesus Christ. Amen.
July 18, 2021
We will learn how God is with us, how Christ is our Emmanuel, ALL the time.
We will be singing Christmas carols, so dress in your favorite Christmas apparel!
It’s Christmas in July!
FUMC invites children to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power!
Kids will take on the role of brave Knights and begin their quest each session by opening the King's Book. They'll explore Old and New Testament stories and discover different pieces of protective armor: the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Justice, the Shoes of
Peace, the Shield of Faith, and the Helmet of Salvation- at work in the lives of familiar Bi-ble characters, and explore how that armor works in their own lives as they follow and
serve God. FUMC will help kids take up the gauntlet and accept the challenge to "armor up" and be
strong by remaining with God and sharing God's love to the world!

HAVE A SAFE AND FUN FOUTH OF JULY

CUB PACK 4545 FOR BOYS AND GIRLS
The Pack is meeting only once a month for a group activity for the
summer. This month they are returning to Riverside Park to fly kites.
Many thanks to the leaders and the parents for the work they have
done to let this age level have fun and friendship. Thank you to River-
side Park.
SCOUTS BSA TROOP 45 FOR BOYS
Seventeen Boys and five adults returned from summer camp near
Athens, Texas. They had a great time. One of the Scouts caught the
biggest Largemouth Bass for the week – 5 ½ pounds! Boys who are
Eagles took a course on the proper use of an ATV. There are some
merit badges to finish during the summer but there were plenty of fin-
ished merit badges. They have decided to return to this camp next
year for the fifth year.
This month those unfinished merit badges and rank advancements
will keep them busy. The Texas Oilman’s Fishing Tournament is
planned to happen mid-month. This is a service project for the Scouts.
Some things great will happen soon.
SCOUTS BSA TROOP 145 FOR GIRLS
This month, two adults and two Scouts are going to summer camp at
the NEW Camp Strake for our local Sam Houston Area Council. It is
located near Coldspring, Texas and surrounded on three sides by the
Sam Houston National Forest. This is the first year for a summer
camp for Scouts on SHAC property in many years. The Troop is get-
ting everything together for the event.
