Lenten Application: Instead of giving up chocolate

or sweets, how about giving up our criticism, gos-

sip and slander of others. It won’t make us fit into

our clothes any better, but will make more room

for Jesus to fit into our lives!

Humbled by God’s mercy, we seek to follow Christ and live the joy of the Gospel through love and service.—Mission Statement

First Sunday of Lent

We’re on a mission! Yes, by our baptism, God has given us a mission to share the Good News. This year at CCASTA we are taking that mission to the streets as we come together as a faith community to share the Good News and serve those less fortunate. On Saturday, April 8, we will be hosting our first Holy Week Missions. This is a chance for all of us to participate at whatever level we are able to do so. We’ll be offering activities for families with children all the way up to our senior citi-zens.

Have children toddler to ten? Come as a family and join us to greet Jesus in a Palm Sunday procession with a live donkey, taste some of the Last Supper meal, walk with Jesus at kid-friendly Stations of the Cross, and go on a Resurrection Egg Hunt.

Middle and high school youth, help us bring the drama of the Way of the Cross to the streets as we dramatize the Stations on the streets of Halethorpe.

Holy Week Missions -continued

Youth, young adults, adults, and families… let our neighbors in Halethorpe and Elkridge know what great things are happening at CCASTA during Holy Week and ask for their prayer intentions so we can lift up their needs to the Lord.

Let our homebound parishioners be part of the mission, too as we visit them and share our presence and a present with them.

Not up to walking the streets? We will be offering a variety of service projects that you can do right in your seat at both parishes. Whether it’s making lunches for the homeless, cards for a nursing home, knitting, etc. you will be touching the lives of those less fortunate.

To finish off the day, celebrate Vigil Mass and a home-cooked dinner at the

parish where you are serving. Register by March 24 and you get a 2017 Holy

Week Missions shirt so everyone will be seeing red as we hit the streets. Let’s

make this the best Holy Week yet for those whose lives we touch and us!

Pope Francis Reminds Us

"The security that God loves us even at our

worst gives us hope. We must tell ourselves each

day, 'God loves me'."

Please pray for all our faithful departed

May they rest in peace with the Risen Lord Jesus.

Prayers for Our Sick Fasting, almsgiv-

ing, and prayer

are the three

disciplines of Lent. The

faithful should undertake

these practices seriously in

a spirit of penance and of

preparation for Baptism or

of renewal of Baptism at

Easter.

FASTING is observed on

Ash Wednesday and Good

Friday by all 18+ years

who have not yet celebrat-

ed their 59th birthday. On

a fast day, one full meal is

allowed. Two other meals,

sufficient to maintain

strength, may be taken to

meet one’s needs, but

together they should not

equal another full meal.

Eating between meals is

not permitted, but liquids,

including milk and juices,

are allowed.

ABSTINENCE is observed

by all 14 years of age and

older. On days of absti-

nence, no meat is allowed.

Note that when health or

ability to work would be

seriously affected, the law

does not oblige. Ash

Wednesday, all the

Fridays of Lent and Good

Friday are days of absti-

nence.

Note: If a person is unable

to observe the above regu-

lations due to ill health or

other serious reasons, oth-

er suitable forms of self-

denial are encouraged.
