My Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

Lent is a time for us to take the road to Jerusalem. Every time Jesus pro-

claims in the scriptures that he is going to Jerusalem, he is fulfilling his

mission—obedient to the Father, true to his commission to give humanity a

remedy for its sins.

My prayer for all of us is that this Lent will allow us mountain experienc-

es—experiences of God. May it bring us into closer contact with our own

needs and the needs of others; may our fasting give us a real appreciation

of the good things of the earth.

As families, please talk about how you might make fasting this year a

greater reality in your home and lives. One way would be by taking the

money you save on food and including those who use the services of

Christian Community Service Center and Casa Juan Diego in your weekly

shopping. The basket in front of the altar in the Gym and the ambo

(lectern) in the Fellowship Hall are there to receive the fruits of your fast-

ing by donation non-perishable foods for our brothers and sisters in need.

I ask that you pray about this sacrifice and then take action to help feed

others as God feeds us.

With every good wish,

Fr. Phil Lloyd

Pastor

FROM FATHER PHIL

Is not this the fast that I choose:

to loose the bonds of injustice,

to undo the thongs of the yoke,

to let the oppressed go free,

and to break every yoke?

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,

and bring the homeless poor into your house;

when you see the naked, to cover them,

and not to hide yourself from your own kin?

— Isaiah, 58:6-7

Bienvenidos

Carta del Padre Phil

E N E S PA Ñ O L

do alimentos no perecederos para nuestros hermanos y hermanas necesitados.

STOP THE EXECUTION OF THOMAS WHITAKER!

T homas "Bart" Whitaker is scheduled to be executed on February 22, 2018

in Texas. Thomas' father, Kent Whitaker - who survived the attack from

his son, which killed his wife and 19-year-old son - has been outspoken in

his opposition to his eldest son's execution. Rather than experience anoth-

er loss, Kent Whitaker hopes for continued reconciliation and restoration with his

son. The death penalty is not restorative.

Catholic Mobilizing Network calls on all people of goodwill to oppose this ac-

tion. Advocate for clemency for Thomas by sending a letter to the Texas Board of

Pardons and Paroles. In Texas, the Governor MUST have the recommendation of

clemency from a board or advisory group. We invite you to voice your opposition

and demand that the state of Texas respect the dignity of all life with this prepared

letter that you can find at https://catholicsmobilizing.org/event/thomas-

whitaker. In your letter, please include this information: full name: Thomas Whita-

ker; birth date: December 31, 1979; TDCJ#999522. Take action now and join a

father's call for life.

Thank you for your faithful advocacy. Your actions help save lives.

Jesus challenges us:

“Repent and Believe,” (Mk 1:15).

He died on the cross for my sins. God

loves ME with unconditional love -

waiting for ME to respond.

How can I deepen MY relationship with

God as MY source of strength and peace?

In Need of Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound

The homebound ministers are in need of more helping hands

to bring Communion to St. Theresa’s parishioners that cannot join us at

Mass each week. Many of them have been members for over 50 years.

We pray, we acknowledge our sins, we share the Gospel, and they re-

ceive the Eucharist. We discuss the goings-on at St. Theresa’s, keeping

them up to date with the Parish they still feel so close to.

The commitment is typically

one weekend per month for an hour or two.

Please call the church office or contact

Kelly L. Glanding-Woelfel at [email protected]

for more information.

We would love to have you join us in this important ministry!
